Who should I speak to?

I’m currently taking a semester-long speech course that is mandatory for graduation. I messed up my first quiz, getting a 22/30. Ok, I can accept this mistake.

Please take a look at this, then proceed reading…:

  1. http://gyazo.com/e28902c3dbac9d65a898b3cd2b04c865 - Speech Grades; she cannot even manage to keep up with grading. We are required to use Google Classroom, like why? Pay attention to Speech Outline #1. 15/30. Late?
  2. http://gyazo.com/ed3a5c2a640f68d296670f6bde34d29b - Speeches were given on Jan 30th.
  3. http://gyazo.com/82a6a989c2ecbbc18bdb6be9af368258 - Obviously done on time.
  4. The actual outline- http://gyazo.com/eca0bee08858d3eb09b4e21573d0d3b3 - we were graded separately on the presentation of speech and the outline. I realize my speech doesn’t sound that great, but is it worth 50%? This speech was solely ‘do the outline and get a 100%’.

Should I speak with my counselor, teacher, or principal? What should I say to the teacher? A junior in my class was absent the day of a guest speaker, so she gave him 50% credit (does anyone agree with this?). Does she know what she is doing with Google Classroom? No. Half the class that has Ds would have As if the teacher would teach us traditionally, paper and pencil. I realize I sound like I think I am perfect, but I cannot help it at the moment. Out of the Bs I may receive in HS, Speech should not be one.

Advice is much appreciated.

How do you know that the assignment was to do the outline and get 100%? Have you tried asking your teacher why you received the grade? That tends to be a real eye-opener, in most cases.

@topaz1116 She clearly stated that we just need to complete the outline. For the speech, we can read word for word of the paper as long it is 60 seconds or more. I’ll talk to her, but she isn’t the type that actually cares about her students (:/).

I’m sorry, maybe it’s because it’s early, but I really don’t understand your point.

Do you disagree with the grading policies? Your teacher’s choice to use Google Classroom? The fact that she neglected to enter a grade? Her choice to make a speech (in a speech class) worth as much as 50% of a grade?

It seems to me that you can accept your own errors-- that 22/30 on the quiz, but that you’re lacking in acceptance of other’s imperfections.

As to who you should speak to, go up the chain of command. If you have an issue with your teacher’s grading, you go to the teacher. (Just as if she had a problem with your work in her class, you would expect to know of the issue-- via grades usually- before she went to your parents.)
