Who was it that got a great rate at wingate? and how?

i may need to book a room in the near future … and nice room for low $$$ makes me happy!!

I think they used price line . com

But, also check Hotel Capstone…sometimes their rate is good, but sometimes not…just depends on the date. Hotel Capstone is on campus, while Wingate is several miles away (but nice).

m2ck remembered correctly. Tuscaloosa hotels vary in both price and quality. When you decide to come down for a football game, the only difference is quality because all the hotels are expensive.

yes, I used priceline, which as you know works sometimes, others not so much. If you have a car I can’t imagine the distance being any kind of issue. Again, guess because we were coming from Chicago which can be a mess, but I found getting around SO easy.

I think the Holiday Inn (Express??) on 15th is also nice. It’s closer than the Wingate and super close to Midtown Village, Target, and lots of restaurants.

What about the La Quinta? I saw rates of about 50 bucks on there for Triple A.

^^^It’s not usually one of the top recommended/rated hotels in Tuscaloosa. I’ve stayed at both Microtels, the Ramada, and the Motel 6, along with visiting most of the other hotels/motels around town. If you stay at least 2 nights between Sunday and Thursday at the Ramada, you can get some very good rates on their website, btw.

In general, I find Alabama lodging to be hit or miss in terms of quality, but prices have generally been very good. If you ever need to stay in Birmingham and have a car, try to get a hotel on the Shelby County (as opposed to Jefferson) side. It helps too during tax free weekend when sales tax is 0% in Shelby County, but 2% in Jefferson.

i think we stayed in the super 8 when we visited … not very delicious!!!

i like it to be nice, if possible, but i also like it to be budget friendly. most of the time we are just sleeping there, so i don’t care that much now nice it is.

I stayed at wingate got a great rate through hotels.com. it was a very nice hotel.

^^^We stayed at Wingate as well and really enjoyed it. Got a good rate at expedia.com

([Wingate by Wyndham | Tuscaloosa Alabama Hotel | Tuscaloosa, AL 35405 | Near Hollywood 16 Theaters - 5 miles away, Bryant Musuem - 6 miles away & Children’s Hands on Museum - 8 miles away](<a href=“Wingate Hotels | Site Temporarily Unavailable”>Wingate Hotels | Site Temporarily Unavailable))

The wingate website has a web special rate coupon worth considering.

[Wingate Tuscaloosa: Website special of $77.77 to celebrate the month of July](http://www.wingatetuscaloosa.com/specials.html)

I got a really good rate on the Wingate in Feb 2010 by using Priceline bidding system. Hotel was great, new facility, very nice beds & comforters. Includes a full hot breakfast bar at no extra cost (except a tip). I plan to make it my hotel for future visits to BAMA.

It was listed as a 2 1/2 star hotel. Room was a single king, not a double though. Best price is by bidding (but you will take a chance at getting a different hotel. ) Their online special, (visit their website) is the best sure bet, but is not valid on football weekends.

can you specify a double on priceline?

like if you were bringing three people … one bed wouldn’t quite work.

i have never used priceline.

I’ve used it. You specify the number of people…then you get choices of rooms…you choose one with 2 beds in it.

You cannot specify a double and you cannot guarantee a nonsmoking room. Most hotels are pretty accommodating, but some have been known to treat priceline guests worse than the normal-priced guests, but that is only at a select few hotels.

SEA_Tide…I just used Priceline over Spring Break and I specified two beds and got it.

I just checked…I put in 2 days for next week at Wingate and it’s giving me a choice of:

King bed - no smoking

King bed - wheelchair access

2 Queen beds - no smoking - with micro-fridge

King suite - no smoking - with micro-fridge

The first 3 are $99/night…so I’d check with Capstone

got Wingate for $41/night for April 12 – with taxes, it came to $54/night. Krazie Spaghetti and I are doing college tour during her spring break, visiting UA and Clemson to see which is a good fit for her.

Also used Priceline to rent a car from Birmingham airport – got car for $30/night unlimited miles.

in addition, got Country Inn and Suites in Anderson SC for $39/night (Priceline), and Drury Inn and Suites in Birmingham (through Hotwire) for $59/night.

The biggest expense was airfare, esp since we decided to stay two more days to drive to clemson. American Airlines would charge additional $150 change fee/pp to change airfare dates, so we bought one way tickets in addition to our roundtrip tickets instead --that turned out to be less expensive than paying the $300 (for two people) change fee.

Mom of four, seems like we are doing the same thing that week. Our S is junior. We have our tour at UA on 4/12, then going to Auburn (4/13), followed by South Carolina (4/15), and Clemson (4/16). Busy spring break week, driving from TN with all the family. Woohoo!!!

We’re really looking forward to visit Bama!

Dd is a senior and for that geog. area – has gotten in to UA (full tuition), Clemson (OOS waiver), UNC Chapel Hill (no scholarship at UNC Chapel Hill, so we are not visiting).

UA, Clemson, UCLA and UWashington (haven’t have about Fin aid at UW yet) are her top accepted choices right now – she applied to 12 colleges trying to choose schools with good merit aid.

Ask to sit in on classes . .so far, DD is sitting in at a history class at Clemson.

^^^

Have you contact Jami Gates to set up your day? If not, consider giving her a call on Monday. You can also email her.
