I searched around the forums a little bit, and it looks like someone applying to AEM heard as early as the last week of November, while some have heard during the 2nd/3rd week of December...Hopefully we all hear back early this year.

Ouch, that could be a problem if it's that late! I have to explain my intention for the residence halls by the middle of December... Oh well, if I get in, I go no matter what!

Thanks spartan!

Does anyone know about Applicant IDs and the whole "self-service" page? What's that all about? When do I hear about it? What kind of information is on the page?

you will get no less then a week after your application has been submitted. It tells you all the stuff that you have submitted (supp., commonapp. teacher eval., SAT, transcript) Nothing more.

Thanks jset! I assume it's by email?

Yup, they'll email you. Don't expect it to be updated for at least a week though.

transferstudent9, just curious, who was your orgo prof? Was it Njardarson or Ruttledge by any chance?

You can PM me if you like

I just checked my common app and all of the triangles for my App, Supplement, and Payment have now turned green.

It still doesn't say what college and major I'm applying to on the self-service though.

Already got my APP ID today! Nothing is really there though. My Common APP shows the same payment, App, and Supplement are all green.

My supp and rec are still red, even though they are both submitted. My sat scores have been erased. Haha, well I emailed them so hopefully no problems there. Does anybody know if it's ok to submit a mid year report a little past the deadline? I'm still waiting for a grade, and it's likely that I'll submit it a week past the deadline.

It's not that big of a deal....I had to sign up for classes and a dorm room before I heard anything from Cornell.

I would assume most colleges follow a similar procedure like the one I went though to withdraw which was to notify the academic advising office in writing...then they forwarded the form to housing, dining, the registrar, my advisor, the chair of my major and financial aid. I even got my housing deposit refunded :-)

Update,

I called the office today and they said everything is in. All I have to do is submit my fin. aid app. Anyone else applying for fin aid?

Dewdrop. Since you have actually attended cornell, how is the fin aid there?

BTW, when I called, I asked the lady if she could note that I didn't write the SATs and she said that "SAT scores are not required of transfer students". That's weird, I read on the website that they are required for everyone except CALS. Oh well...

I'm not sure if I should bother applying for fin aid - does anyone know how good the fin aid at Cornell is?

the thing is, at NYU I only got aid in the form of PLUS loans, which I didn't take, so my parents are paying tuition out of pocket. Am I right in assuming that Cornell will similarly give me just loans?

I'm not complaining though - if I get into HumEc, it's only $20,000 a yr since I'm from NY! I shouldn't expect it to get any better than that...I'm thinking of not filling out FAFSA. Is this a dumb mistake?

"In the 2009-10 academic year, the program will eliminate need-based loans for students from families with total incomes below $75,000, and cap annual loans at $3,000 for students from families with total incomes between $75,000 and $120,000."
Apply....

Well if I'm only gonna get $3,000 for an annual loan, I don't think I should bother. My parents are currently paying like $38,000 at NYU just for tuition, and Cornell is $26,000 for tuition AND room/board, so it'll be quite a relief.

thanks btw I wasn't aware of their fin aid policy

Crappy...I graduated right after they implemented the new financial aid policy....the Far Above Campaign isn't getting a cent from me until I pay off my loans!

Most of my financial aid was in the form of loans since Cornell calculated a rather high EFC for my family despite documentation of their bankruptcy and we couldn't get a PLUS loan to cover it.

Anyway...I graduated with $62,000 of debt....could be worse. Just to give you all an idea of what that equates to....it's about a $700/month loan payment. So...if you fall out of the realm of good FA from Cornell...think twice and borrow wisely.

Haha...where did you get that figure? When I started at Cornell I paid around $29,600 for the year and my senior year cost around $35,300.

These are the estimates for the current academic year: Costs....they estimate one year at a contract college for an NYS resident to be $34,244 ($32,004 of that is tuition and room+board).

Dewdrop.

Is it still crappy? I come from a pretty large family and my parents don't have money(seriously). I thought Cornell guarenteed that any student who gets accepted, will be given full funding if they demonstrate that they are unable to pay.

How did it get more expensive for you? Anyway yeah you're right, it'll be a little more, but not by much. Meal plans aren't required, right? I wasn't planning on getting one. Tuition is $20,364 and room/board is almost $7,000. I'm not paying for student health care or anything. It should still come out to a little less than $30,000 which is like $8,000 less than what I'm paying at NYU for just tuition, plus thousands commuting 2 hours a day...

btw dewdrop are you in HumEc by chance? I really wanted a HumEc student to chance me, and I'm starting to worry they don't exist.

The way I see it, Cornell is mad expensive for my family, BUT, if I get in, I'm going, and I'm not too worried about loans and stuff, cos I have a feeling that with a Cornell degree a lot of doors will open, as the saying goes.

And when I say I think my essays are crappy, they are, but they aren't "nice" although, I'm sort of over that. I've been honest and I meant what I wrote, if that's not what Cornell wants, then it's probably better if I don't get in.

lol
