hmm…our thread has already exceeded views of last year’s thread. im not sure what this tells us

^^^interesting. I’m not sure. Most of those views are probably just lurkers who want to see how the process is going but aren’t actually interested in applying. I used to lurk in a bunch of threads when I first joined this site.

Also, general consensus: We’re all worried and we all want to be notified of the decisions as soon as possible. There. Now no one has to post about that stuff anymore :)

every time i have applied, it’s just pins and needles until the decision actually comes. i think it is a definite trend that “yes” applicants hear quite early, and that “no” applicants are notified well into december. i recall my first two decisions coming in december, and they were both “no” from the hotel school. i’ve learned from speaking with an ex-prof that the hotel school heavily focuses on GPA/SAT/work experience, while CALS and other colleges are far more individually focused and “fit” is one of the most important factors. i hope this information is true, because i think i’d fit perfectly into the CALS community.

for myself, the purpose of this thread is to learn about the application process. now that decisions are weeks from arriving in our hands, i believe discussing “stuff” like this is important.

and east: from my understanding, a general consensus is something a group agrees to, not a single person.

I have a 3.3 right now and currently I am a senior. Then again I go to a magnet school which offers the toughest classes so the 3.3 is my unweighted GPA.

I think unweighted might be a 3.7 something. I don’t know you but I hope you get into Cornell!

I have not even started to apply to colleges yet.

Actually, I believe the transfer app. packet clearly states that work experience is extremely important for all applicants, so you’re completely right.

From my understanding, CALS and ILR are more so about “fit” as you said.

And the general consensus comment was a joke.

^ I meant all applicants to the hotel school. I can’t edit the last comment anymore.

work experience is important for all schools, but i’ve heard that the hotel school values your work experience because they want to make sure that you’ve had experience in the hotel/tourism field before they accept you to see that you actually know that you like it enough. i think for other schools it’s mostly to see that you’ve been doing things in your spare time and if you’ve ever had a cool job i’m sure that helps. i didn’t send a resume this time, do you think that matters?

ironic: how many times have you applied? both to the hotel school?

i submitted resumes with my first two applications, but did not with my third. my application is strong enough with everything else, and seriously, they have enough in my file already… it would be ridiculous to send an updated resume. i think adcoms appreciate a tidy file.

cal- i never applied to the hotel school. this will be my second time applying to human ecology.

well, hotel and human ecology are among the hardest colleges to get into at cornell. i am a bit worried because i applied to the hotel school twice with a strong interest in hotel administration, and now i am applying to CALS for viticulture and enology (my current major at cal poly). will this raise questions to the admissions committee, or may they interpret it as being very dedicated to go to cornell?

Human ecology and hotel administration are the third and forth least selective colleges at Cornell, respectively. Either way, I wouldn’t worry about as long as you show a firm interest in your prospective major.

What follows fifth and sixth? ILR and CALS?

Yea, ILR is the least selective followed by CALS. These percentages are only in terms of transfers and they are inflated by GTs. Of course, each group has very competitive applicants and a percentage shouldn’t be an estimate as to how easy it is to get into a college.

T: Class, who wants November to come already???

CC Cornell Applicants: “I do, I do” hands up, jumping up and down

I’m still saying Halloween… You all watch

bahahaha jemma. oh man riley. depending on the size of the envelope i get, that could either wreck my second favorite holiday or make it a million times better

RileyJohn, I want you to prove my first week of November theory wrong very badly.

I’m actually very scared. Lately my confidence has been plunging. Nothing in my past shows that I’m into the major I’m applying to except my pets due to my art-focused life, in contrast to all of you guys. I basically have my essays showing that I had a life’s epiphany + my insane high school career. For me, it’s more than just changing schools, it’s a change of career and basically changing my life. Gahhh.
My plan B is to drop out of art school and go to community for semester while I reapply everywhere lol. I can’t stand doing this art thing anymore.

i think we’ll hear within the first 2 weeks of november

azu, your plan B isn’t terrible, it actually sounds like a good idea if you really aren’t into art any more. and from what i read, i thought that you explained yourself and your story very clearly, so i’m sure they’ll see that. i wanted to take next semester off if i don’t get in, but i just found out that i can’t do that because of insurance issues and it’s just stressing me out even more. yuck.

weee im the one-thousand-commenter…and im the oldest here…
