Who's applying to McGill for fall of 2018?

@TomSrOfBoston That makes sense, thank you. When do you think they will be in by? I’ve seen you post a ton on CC, so I’m hoping you’ll have some insight.

@en2900 I would say wait until the beginning of next week. If it still shows them not being received give McGill a call.

Canadian university admissions offices do not deal with the "intensity’ of interest in the application process that exists in the US.

Hi everyone, quick question. After getting the “Further Review Required” request, I uploaded my most recent report card to Minerva. It says that they received the grades, but still has “Decision: Further Review Required” on top of the page. Is that normal?

@writergirl0316 Yes. It won’t change until someone touches your application again. Usually doesn’t take more than a few days. Good luck!

Just got accepted! Haven’t applied for entrance scholarship yet, so no financial aid to report, but will do that soon.

Yay! Congrats @writergirl0316 !

Thank you! Now just the wait for scholarships to make attending possible. @ShrimpBurrito

I uploaded my most recent report card to minerva after getting “Further Review Required” on December 19th and it still says that. There is also no option to “upload a new version.” Did I upload the wrong kind of file or get rejected? Or has nobody looked at my file yet?

Congratulations @writergirl0316. Also, when you are thinking about cost keep in mind the exchange rate…which right now is .81. Also keep in mind that second year is less expensive from a room and board standpoint since you’ll go off campus. Congrats again!

Thank you! I’m just trying to get at least a few thousand dollars in scholarships (whether institutionally or outside) to bring the COA down to around my EFC. @SwimmingDad

Something interesting – I was looking at the form for the entrance bursary, and it asked for a 250-word paragraph on my extracurriculars. I guess even the need-based aid has some sort of merit component ?

That is interesting. I guess in case there are two candidates with equal need they would give it to the person that would add most to the campus…but I don’t know that for a fact.

If you have any questions on McGill as you go forward, feel free to PM me. My son is a U0 studying Econ in the Faculty of Arts…in fact he is at the airport right now flying back to Montreal. He has had a really good experience. Classes and grading are challenging…but as a parent I can tell you he has learned a lot and, more importantly, I’m seeing deeper critical thinking skills I hadn’t seen before. He loves his dorm (he is in Upper Rez), likes the diversity of countries of the students (he has friends from all over the world now), and he adores Montreal. It’s been a good fit for him.

To what extent if at all are AP exams scores considered in the admissions process?

Dont think they are since they go with unweighted gpas and stuff. I think APs play a role in them deciding in placing you in freshmen or sophomore

So is this wrong then?

@szeits that was what my counselor told me when i asked here. she said that they consider APs when it comes to deciding whether to put u in U0 or U1. Great APs alone with bag gpas etc wont guarantee acceptance

@szeits Never rely on third party websites for information. Refer to the McGill website for official policy.

If I’m applying to Arts, have a 33 ACT, grades in the A range all of junior year and first second semester senior year with the exception of a B- in math, do I have a chance? In other words, will one B- in a math class at a hard private school drastically hurt my chances?

“will one B- in a math class at a hard private school drastically hurt my chances”

I don’t think so. My daughter got in a few years back with a B+, several A-'s, and comparable test scores (although hers were on the SAT). Not knowing the full picture, nonetheless I expect that your chances are probably good.

@DadTwoGirls thanks :slight_smile:

Can someone chance me? I’m an American applying Arts and Science. I just applied today.

GPA: 97/100 UW. Pretty sure that equates to a 4.0. If course rigor counts, it’s high. 7 AP’s, 6 DE’s, the rest honors. Senior grades are good.
SAT: 1570 (780 M/790V)
SAT II: 800 Physics and Chem, 790 US, 730 Math II
If AP’s count, APES:5, Chem:5, US:5, Lang:5, Physics 1&2: 4

Also, if it’s possible to know, when should I expect a decision?
