Who's Giving You What... (So Far)

Just to get things back on track…

Please state the GIFT aid amount and which UC its from

UC_: $__

Davis and Irvine were by far the most generous with me (I’m only listing grants, not loans):

UCLA: 10,200 + 10,302 Cal Grant
Davis: 16990 + 10,302 Cal Grant (mentions 3,500 self help expectation, will this mean that they won’t allow me to have the Cal Grant cover the self help amount?
Santa Barbara: 10,717 + 10,302 Cal Grant
Irvine: 19410 + 10,302 Cal Grant

I noticed that only the schools who were giving small amounts of their own financial aid mentioined the cal grant. Neither Davis nor irvine even mentioned the fact that I’m getting the cal grant, and they both gave me the most money! That’s why I broke it down the way I did. I know I’ll only receive as much cal grant as I need to meet my financial need for that particular school, but I’ve got plenty coming! EFC of 0 ftw!

woah man you got a LOT congrats

UCLA also is giving me not that much. 20,000 total, but I have complete need (as in, I’d need 9000 to make up the difference). I’m wondering why the “SMART” grant didn’t show up on my package. I think I’ll give them a call tomorrow.

@solidblu Someone in another thread said that they called UCI and the person they spoke with said that the amount of UC Grant aid will “reduce significantly” once your Cal Grant is confirmed. Could be the case with the other schools as well.

@arcade ya they say I’ll need $9,000 of my own as well. Anyone know whether “work study” is a good idea or not?

@UCcasualty Ya, that’s because they’ll let the government pay for everything if the government wants to  UCI claims my need is $28,000. The UC Irvine grant alone was $13,360. I guess once the cal grant makes up for the difference, the irvine grant will start diminishing until the cal grant is filling in just up until that 28000 limit

@arcadefire I also did not receive SMART or FSEOG from UCLA, which is what UCI had offered me. It’s a major disappointment… SMART is $4000!!!

UCCasualty: When I spoke to UC Santa Barbara about the financial aid package, they told me that although the SMART grant didn’t show up on the provisional letter, it would be included in the final package (if I qualified). I’m hoping UCLA has the same policy.

mine says they did not receive my fafsa but my fafsa says it ucla is on the list and a couple days ago it was up on the URSA im so confused

@arcadefire good to know! =) if you call UCLA about the Smart issue would you be so kind as to PM me or just post what you heard from them in this thread?

Sure thing! I just sent them an E-mail. If I don’t have a response in a couple days I’ll give them a call.

lol i didnt get any money

Hey guys…

I’m a little confused. My gift aid currently displays:
Federal Pell Grant: $1,176
Scholarship Recognition Award: $15,089

… And that’s all. Why is there no mention of Cal Grant or anything related to the state? And also, why is there no mention of the Blue & Gold Program? When I log into webgrants it says my application is 'awaiting processing." Does anyone else have this or is something wrong with my Cal Grant application? (I submitted it a few weeks before the deadline.)

UCLA: $0
UCSB: $0
UCSD: $0

Is there anyway to make FA people understand that even though my dad makes 100k+ annually, he has lots of bills to pay, and probably won’t be able to pay damn 35k for my education. I don’t really now how the system works, but my GPA is high enough for me to get at least some sort of aid. Does anyone know what can be done?

UCSD: $9300 ish
UCLA: $9900 ish

@Vedanta

I feel you, both my brother and I will be attending a UC next year so my parents will be paying about 70,000 a year. And make 100+ isn’t enough to cover everything in life…especially in OC

UCLA:0
UCSD:0
UCD:0

@ arcadefire… and anyone else who is interested

I called UCLA fin. aid services and they told me that although they did not post awards for the National SMART grant in the provisional award letter, we can expect to receive it if from them as well.

I told the guy that I talked to that other UCs had offered me $4000 for the SMART grant and he said that I should expect to receive the same amount from UCLA. He also said that the fin. aid office does not fully process your fin. aid application until you SIR, so the office does not determine SMART grant eligibility until after you SIR.

UCLA: $5550 Pell Grant + $10302 Cal Grant = $15,852 Total Gift Aid

I know it’s a privisional award letter, but does anyone know if the amount awarded can be increased later? UCSB gave me $3167 in University of California Grant aid in addition to the Pell Grant and Cal Grants. I was expecting to see something similar from UCLA.

Also, when I click on the Financial Aid Document Tracking link:

"Document tracking functionality is available only to continuing UCLA students and to admitted students, who have completed their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR).

The Financial Aid Office has not received your financial aid application (FAFSA) for the current academic year. We cannot determine your eligibility for financial aid without this information. To complete the FAFSA or check on the status of a submitted application go to: www.fafsa.ed.gov. "

Why would it say that they haven’t received my FAFSA if I DID submit it before the March 2nd deadline? Is anyone else getting the same message?

I’m getting NOTHING :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:
But my parents and I made a few careless mistakes on the fafsa that actually turned out to seriously sky-rocket our efc haha-so-I think I need to fix that? But I fear it’s too late! wt.f!

I mean, loans? Yeah, but no grants/scholarships-
Can I change the fafsa?!

@Rattus

From your Cal Grant awards its seems like you’ll be eligible for the SMART grant (max $4000). They don’t determine your elgibility for SMART until you SIR. Similarly, you won’t be able to track your fin. aid until you SIR. Also, I think UCLA calls their “UC Grant” the “Scholarship Recognition Award,” but I think if you were going to receive one they would have included it in your provisional award letter.
