Who's going to their Senior prom?

diehldun, what kind of school is it that whated to have a white tie prom? first time i've ever heard of a white tie prom, but not a white tie event. prom isn't something that formal

You guys are lame :P

Not as lame as prom ;)

I go to a school where kids "expect" to have a new Benz waiting for them on their driveway at 16. I'm used to it now, but sometimes it still sickens me.

Our prom was free, but dinner/limo/tux, etc. are not included. Thank god white tie was a no go. I've NEVER heard of a school going white tie prom before.

im going to 8th grade "final dance" .. maybe.

maybe not, since i haven't gone to any of the other ones this year, and all the popular kids are trying to turn it into a formal. i'd say that's pretty lame.

I went to mine, it was last night. Alot more fun that I thought it would be. Me and this girl have been eyeballing eachother all year, and I had the balls to ask her to dance, it was great.

I kind of wish I would have danced more. it was memorable thats for sure. Kind of sad that this was the last time we will all be together, well sort of.

I never went to any dances and now i regret not going.

I am not planning on going. I have never gone to any school dances. I don't like the expectations and chaparoning that goes on. I can have more fun doing my own thing with my friends at my house. We always have house parties here with DJ's and everything, which are 100x more fun than prom. Prom is just overrated.

sounds about the same as my school, but BMW's are the cars of choice.

still had a "normal" black-tie prom. i think of white-tie as more of a British thing anyway

So do they specify what type of ties you have to wear? For us, we could wear whatever type of tie/tux/suite we wanted.

Mine's next weekend and I'm not going... the only guy I would have even remotely considered going with got asked by someone waaaay early, and even though a group of people invited me to sit at their table, none of them are my close friends so I would have felt like the odd person out. I think me and a couple of my close girl friends are going to do a girls night out thing instead. Way more fun (and cheaper!)

mathwiz, a tux is a well-made suit

bids are ~$90 at my school depending on how early you get them

white tie is an entire different type of dress than black tie. more formal and "proper"

white tie:
Black tailcoat with silk (ribbed or satin) facings, sharply cut-away at the front
Black trousers with a single stripe of satin or braid in the US or two stripes in Europe
White stiff-fronted shirt, with cotton pique dickie, boiled or heavily starched
White stiff wing collar (attached to the shirt with collar buttons)
White bow tie (usually cotton pique)
White low-cut waistcoat (usually cotton pique, matching the bow tie and dickie)
Black silk stockings
Black patent leather pumps or shoes

Cameliasinensis- do you have a pic?

It's this dress but cream colored with red and blue flowers and green leaves. Prom is pretty informal at my school; I didn't see anyone with a traditional floor-length dress last year.

Diesel, what school do you go to?

"Played poker with my friends instead. Much more fun."
Ahhh. I wish I could do that!

I'm so jealous, Camelia. We're semi-forced to wear floor-length dresses, but there are so many pretty (and cheap!!!) shorter ones...
Prom and I... we don't mess. I like to dress up on occasion... but not if that entails:
-shopping for hours trying to find a long dress that actually fits, then having to tailor the only dress that fits my tiny chest because it's far too long
-getting my nails done (I refused to)
-getting my hair done (once again, I refused to)

It's not even that I'm a 'tomboy...' I just don't see what all of the fuss is. Perhaps if I were going with my 'dream date' I would be more open-minded... but, I'm completely indifferent towards my date (as heartless as that sounds), and I just want to get prom over with.

Yeah, I had a good time, but I had awful luck. Kept getting second bested and got pushed by the chip leader all night. Oh well. Still beats prom.

I went with the guy I've liked all year. Prom itself was AMAZING. The minute it struck midnight (not even kidding -- that's about when the dance ended) is when things went horribly. Now I'm completely brokenhearted and don't even want to go to school tomorrow because I can't face him without wanting to start crying all over again.

So I guess my actual prom went really well but my entire prom experience was just a disaster. I wouldn't take it back for anything in the world, though, despite all the heartache.

I'm sorry, Joycelene.

Our prom is in June i forgot the date, but I'm not going. I've never had any fun at school dances, formal and informal. I don't have a chance with any of the girls I would have wanted to ask anyway so *shrug.
Prom costs on average 500 bucks at our school too...not worth the money IMO.

I'm not one to regret the past either, so I don't think I'll miss prom.
