Michigan is the other school - I already got in, but honestly I don't really want to spend 4 years in Ann Arbor.

Foghorn, my son also got into UMICH, if you got in there, i would be shocked if you did not get into UMD. Are you in state?

Yeah, I'm in-state.

Just for some disclosure, my top 3 choices are UMD, UPenn, and Brown. The last two are tough to get into for anybody (plus they're really expensive) so I'm really hoping to hear back from UMD soon!

Foghorn, you look extra great for in state! UMICH is pretty hot too! I couldn't help myself and just called admissions again - this time all they would say is that they haven't sent the letter out yet and therefore can't say anything except they have until March 1st for priority.
bigmike and jorge.juan are your guys still waiting too??

^That's crazy. I have a friend who just got her acceptance letter last Friday -- and she applied RD.

yes i'm still waiting

I called admissions this afternoon and a girl said that they have all the application materials and that my decision is "pending". She also said I should hear back in the "next few weeks"...haha. Her guess was that they are probably deciding about Honors, Gemstone, etc. and that there is no need to panic yet.

Phew! That last comment relieved me a bit since I have not heard either. The thing that is kind of throwing me off about possibly being considered for honors is that (in my eyes) there were several other applicants from my school that have much better stats. But yeah, that's good news. 10 more days! 10 more days!

bigmike, don't forget they use the essays and teacher recs when reviewing for honors and scholarships too - hard numbers found in stats won't be everything. I was reviewing last years posts and see the B/K scholarship inviations went out in the second half of Feb, so I am hoping that review is holding our decisions up! I just don't get notifying regular decisions before all priority decisions have been made. Maybe our applications are being looked at by specific departments for scholarships? My intended major is physics. Hey, we may as well aim for the stars as we wait. Looks like we all have above average stats, here's to hoping!
Foghorn, thanks for the update from admissions.

Yeah no problem - hopefully things will work out well for all of us.

it looks like people who are still waiting are not candidates for the b/k scholarship seeing as we may not hear back (Mar 1) until after the interview (Feb 27). is this true?

also, i don't think that the decision is still pending due to consideration for honors, gemstone, etc because i know some people who got in already into those programs. also, i am still waiting on a decision and it will likely be no.

Don't assume a rejection because you haven't heard - some people have already had rejections so that is not holding a decision up. Someone posted a March 11th date for the B/K scholarship interview. Last year's threads show the B/K scholarships going out in waves. I do think consideration for honors, gemstones, etc. do add an extra step in the admission decision but this wait is getting kinda crazy. IMO regular decision applicants should not hear before priority decision applicants - as my little sisters and brother would say "that's not fair".
Hang in there atlee123 - positive thoughts only... are you priority?

I agree don't go down that road...I am still sticking with my premise of 1st in 1st to know...in the end it could be you were the very last app they received. 23K+ apps take a long time...if you look at it its about 8K amonth they go throw, 2K a week, 50 an hr. Those are alot of files to be reviewing

Atlee,

I posted on the B/K thread, but the B/K interview notices are going out in two waves. One batch went out this week and the other will go out next week according to the Undergrad Admissions person that phoned us yesterday. An email also went out for an invitation to an informal breakfast and class observation from your respective department major. We received the email about the interview, but not the snail mail yet.

DS also received an email for an invitation to register to chat online tonight and the night of March 9th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. EST. This is for Honors and Scholars.

Hang in there! Perhaps you will get everything all in one swoop! Good luck to you.

THIS WAITING REALLY STINKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And now scholarship awards are being given out and I don't even have a decision.
Sorry... just needed to scream a la text.

Goodschool, do you have a decent hs guidance counselor that can ask the Maryland admissions office what the ____ is going on? It seems really unethical for them not to tell you anything when you did get all your stuff in by the deadline and I think you wrote previously they even had made a decision, just can't tell you?

The priority notification deadline is March 1. RD is April 1. Hang in there.

Muffy - good enough GC - we are on vacation this week though. Maybe I'll swing by on Monday and ask her to give them a call.
NewTerp - nice name, yeah, I know March 1st, but they have given decisions to some reg. decisions - no choice but to hang in there, just a bit frustrated.

That's a good idea - I think I'll talk to my counselor next week some time - she's amazing. Goodschoolhopefully, I really hope things get sorted out for both of us and all the other people waiting. From what I've read, all of us have pretty competitive stats so I expect that we'll get in. I just hope the late timing doesn't affect consideration for scholarships and other programs like Gemstone.

Yeah, OOS - I NEED scholarship consideration. Keep me posted and I'll do the same.
