A friend of mine was recently induced into the “Who’s Who Among American High School Students” society, and I just wanted to get a wider range of notions/opinions regarding the amount of pretige held by that recognition. Is it very competitive? Can it be a deciding factor into Ivy League colleges? Appreciate your help.

its a scam dearie. if u DO put it into ur apps, they'd prolly think less of you for falling for it. a LOT of ppl get those things...DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY!!!

SCAM scam sCAM it is a big scam

how many times do i have to say it to get this through to everyone.

don't buy the yearbook.

Haha, I remember my biology teacher told me to stay after class. I didn't know why and this was a man the entire school FEARED! I saw him after and he shook my hand and said he elected me into the Whos Who and gave me the letter. He said it was a very big honor. My counselor even said it was a big deal. This is why no one in our school gets into good colleges lol. So glad to have left. I hated biology too.

I hope you can forgive me for the vanity of quoting myself, but--
I don't think it's a scam as such, but it's completely meaningless. As far as I'm aware they charge an exorbitant price for a book with profiles of whoever bought it. Anyone who includes it on his/her app will be automatically rejected and get the application sent back with LOSER written across it in red ink, and a videotape of adcoms pointing and laughing through their tears.

Not really, but you know what I mean.

same.........

I don't understand why these types of threads keep coming up. PLEASE USE YOUR COMMON SENSE PEOPLE!!! It has money-gouging scam written all over it. Although thisyearsgirl's quote is exaggerated, I've read in some preparation for college admission books of adcoms who actually do laugh at people who mention these scams in their awards section of the application.

Yes, I've seen at least three of these threads within the past few days--thus the exasperated hyperbole. I think the last line gave away that I wasn't actually serious.
