Short: No.
Long: Practically everyone who applies to top-level colleges is in those, so putting them down tells an ad-com that you have nothing better to put down.

i dont have anything better to put down

i didnt pay.

and i still put it on my resume.

i have no honors either. not even that AP scholar thing. and my school has no honor roll...

ahhhhhhhhhh!

Ok, some say to include them as honors and others say do not include them because:

1) it looks like you are trying to pad your application.

2) top tier school will "know" you are probably a member.

3) just looks 'bad'.

I agree with one of the previous posts - you HAVE to meet certain academic, character and approval to get accepted. Not everyone who applied was accepted at my school. Also, I know of one person who was a member of NHS, got caught doing something and was kicked out of NHS.

I feel like if I DON'T list the NHS and the other national societies; the adcom might think I am not a member of them and perhaps did something that would make me not qualified to be a member? I know of some really smart people who could not get into NHS because they did not get approval from all of their teachers. I don't want the adcom to think I am one of those.

Comments?

well just put it there but if ur GPA is like good it's kind of obvious. I'm just gonna put them b/c i tutored through some of the honor societies. Also they don't read into it that much. Seriously, why would they care about it? They don't have much time for ur essay. Do u think they'll put that much time on ur honors? Let's be practical here.
