Why am I inferior?

So I've been browsing CC for a bit now and every single chance thread and schedule thread I've read.. every single person has had a better resume and schedule than me

I go to a private catholic prep school, I join many ECs but I never have a resume better than most people on this forum. You people have done amazing things and quite frankly I'm depressed and really upset that my resume is lacking and thus forth I'm a failure right now and I'm worried about my chances. my class is only 120-130 students and when I read posts where people are #1 out of 3000 students in their school, it makes me cringe and I ponder the question of whether or not I deserve to live.

I am a failure.

Just keep your head up.

If you are being serious, talk an adult because this might be serious. Don’t let CC depress you. CC is not real life. It’s elitism at it’s best. Don’t worry. Keep strong and carry on.

I am serious. Not trolling.

I can barely score past a 1500 on an SAT practice test and I’ve taken Pre- Alg, Alg 1, and Geo. While I see everyone on CC scores 2360’s, and 34’s on their ACTs and complain about 780 on SAT2s, when I wish I could score a 780 on an SAT2

You can’t compare yourself to others ever, especially on CC. Your only competition should be yourself.

It’s hard when you see people on here freaking over a 780 on SAT2 and wondering if they should retake it for those 20 points… 20 points. Like it’s sad and frightens me if this is the world I’m going to grow up in, the world where 20 points on an SAT Subject test can change your admission decision to Ivies.

I don’t know what to do… I can’t get into advanced classes at my school because the department heads do not like me/wont’ approve my request. APs are not available until jun year…

How am I going to get into college with a subpar GPA, crappy ECs?

If you say so. I think you just have a classic case of the “CC Inferiority Complex.” Just remember that being rejected from selective colleges doesn’t mean you’re a failure.

Don’t read the “What are my chances” forum, that’s guaranteed to depress you.

You need to realize that (1) people on here are the top %, most people aren’t like this and (2) people on here probably exaggerate a lot too about their stats and accolades.

Seriously pal, don’t worry. Surprisingly I’ve never gotten too depressed over reading this stuff, even though I’m nothing compared to the number of 4.0s and 2400s on here. I have, however, developed better standards for myself, and strive to do better. So let CC change your work ethic, but don’t let it get you down.

Someone could make a fortune if they created a CC therapy business or something, really.

CE527M, I spent the last 3 hours reading through every chance thread on that forum… that sparked this thread.

York00… I come from a first-gen minority family…

Thank you for the advice everyone

Its okay. Everyone is not meant to be straight A students, admission into Ivy League students, and students that just are considered perfect. This website is for every type of student. So what you can do for yourself is develop your own personality, your own skills, and your own love for life in a different way. Use this to be unique. Use this to find things about yourself that you never knew about. Maybe you won’t be so depressed after all.

Most people make their accomplishments sound better than they were. They stretch the truth on here because that’s what they’re going to do on their college apps. You can learn to do this too.

Freshmen and sophomores sometimes make chances threads based on their “prospective” stats (what they think they’re going to do).

People who like to visit college websites in the first place tend to be above average. People with bad stats aren’t going to post them on the Internet for everyone to see.

People making chances threads are generally trying to get into the most selective colleges in the country, but most colleges accept most of their applicants.

A lot of CCers are affluent and go to very good schools. They may have more opportunities or connections than you.

If you’re not exaggerating, I’m assuming that was a ■■■■■. People are ranked within their grade, and Google says the largest high school in America only has about 3500 students in the entire school.

Trust me, they’re not complaining. It’s false modesty.

Study and take more practice tests. It’s not an intelligence test. I got a 22 on my first ACT. Also look at test-optional schools.

shrug
Then it’s an institutional thing. Colleges can’t penalize you for that.

First of all, This is CC. Some students here are part of a stupid group of college-oriented, obsessive “my GPA is 4.0/Sat is 2400 with leadership in 20 ECs” mindless zombies.

^This is the minority of people. There are many people on here, myself included, who does not perform as well as they do. Yet we all have the potential to do it, everyone is so different and do things differently. Even those top people in those chance me thread may not even get into Ivy League universities.

I got into one of the top engineering school, with a GPA of 3.2, SAT 1700 (my PSAT were around 1400), and ACT of 26. Top 10 engineering school; and I barely got in. Many of these people are seeking Ivy league or schools like MIT. Clearly you are probably not even thinking about THOSE schools. BTW, coming from a “first-gen minority family” means nothing. It only give some colleges a forced chance to look at you and actually consider you in their gates. That’s all. Don’t like your family history drags you down, rather let it propels you into YOUR future. Take this coming from a college freshman black guy with no parent completing college.

Again, don’t let these multiple-AP-with-score-of-4/5’s kids on CC bring you down. They are the minority in the amount of people going to college.

Don’t read those chance forums!!! And don’t let anything on this site bother you. CC is not the real world.

I know a senior who graduated this year with a 1500 SAT and she got into a decent university, so don’t let four hours on a Saturday morning define who you are!! You are not a failure.

Wow… that just debunked a lot of information for me about CC members…

so it’s okay to exaggrate/lie on college apps about ECs?

No. It give colleges the thought that this student is trying WAAYY too hard.

Lie, no.
Make stuff sound better than it was, yes.

Bad example involving my job at McDonald’s:
What I do: sweep floors, shovel Chicken McNuggets into boxes that aren’t nearly as big as they should be, grovel, etc.
What my resume says I do: prepare and assemble food, ensure cleanliness of work areas

Another bad example involving piano:
What I do: Go to a lesson every week and play the same stuff over and over again because I never practice.
What my resume says: I’ve played the piano for eight years.

That’s not really “exaggerating”…
Just excellent word choice…

Haha… “excellent word choice”
I’ll remember that.

A lot of people are lying on this forum. When they post on the parents forum they’ll usually be called out for inconsistencies in their stats (there’s people that claim to be seniors in high school in one post and in another post claim to be college sophomores, for example).

Oh and some of the parents are like… eh. Some are also lairs so even though they may be older, it doesn’t means that their advice always counts.
