Share your reasons for choosing a business major.

I’ve always loved business. I’ve been learning how to make sound financial decisions all my life really. I’ve saved all my birthday and christmas money for years when other kids were blowing every dime that came their way within a week on candy and PSP games. I rocked Sim City Classic, dominated Roller-Coaster Tycoon, crushed Sim City 3000 and have won the past dozen games of monopoly (you really can overcome the luck factor if you think like a businessman). I’m a good speaker who likes to make decisions, too. Plus, McCombs is a top notch business school, especially for the majors I’m interested in, and I get in-state tuition! It was meant to be.

-Immediate real-world application right out of college.
-I’m a math nerd at heart. (I’m going into accounting.)
-I, too, dominated Roller Coaster Tycoon.
-I’ve been addicted to The Apprentice since I was 10.
-I can make people listen to me, and I’m good at telling people what to do. :)

Accounting =/= math. Very big misconception is that accounting is all about math. If you love math, get a math or engineering degree, because all accounting is basic arithmetics and algebra + regulations and business concepts.

To be a waiter at a nice restaurant and hopefully get promoted to manager when I get more experience!

Money

Power

Women

Magical powers

Not necessarily in that order.

^love it - I, too, have been addicted to The Apprentice as well as Roller Coaster, Zoo, and Restaurant tycoon…not to mention sims…since a young age…business must be in my blood

yes, i love the subject, i love the idea, i just love it! specifically, i love the hospitality industry with the focus on service! I also went to a camp and took a few classes that i loved!

Oh yeah, i love the stock market and analyzing stocks…just got back from business camp where we talked a lot about investing :P

When I was 8, I used to run a Theatre at my house, and carried a clipboard around that scheduled movie times, employment schedules, and sales reports.

I was also a Roller Coaster Tycoon nut. RCT 2 was the best.

And when I learn about it, I really enjoy it, depending on the subject.

I’m not going to lie, money is important to me, and from the people I’ve met, a business major seems to be the way to go (for me at least).

heres my reason

[YouTube - Naughty By Nature - Here Comes The Money](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeXatquVqAc)

lol jk

Ive always had an interest in business all my life (and math for that matter) so business major ftw

Sim City is a micromanager’s wet dream. Please don’t manage if that game is what you want out of a business.

Also, when you all say “I’ve always been interest in business” what does that mean? “Business” is such a broad term and can mean so many things that this declaration is vague.

What I mean by my ‘interest’ was how the actual organizations work , what kind of work and strategy goes into making critical decisions and how some corporations beat out others in a saturated market.

Does that answer ur question or should I also tell you what kind of wet dreams i have had last year?

first of all, lmao @ post # 10 …watched the whole video once again just for the fun of it.

I choose Business more of as a process of elimination more than as of a childhood addiction, although I did a lot of business when I was young lol…I guess it was more of marketing. I used to trade chickens (hens) and save money to buy PS1 games and festivals. Back in Asia, I used to run my uncle’s small grocery store (its more of a roadside shop). Whenever he had to go to lunch or run home or pick up cylinder orders, he had me sit there, collect the money (all cash …no credit nothing) & give out the goods. Almost everyone knows each other there, so very rare chances of stealing or theft even if a little kid is running the store. So I guess that experience counts as retail…Now that was all when I was around 8-11 yrs old. Most of the time when I saved money, I used to give it to my grandfather because I knew he kept it safe and also b/c he gave me more than what I gave him to save on the day of the Christmas and Shabarat (Halloween type holiday). Sometimes he would buy me something that was worth way more than my saved amount. So I guess that was all investing. And I loved every single thing that I did (especially with my money). I loved to make fool out of people and trade things here and there and also ended up keeping some of those items instead of selling them. Now that was all my childhood passion for money and business, when I wasn’t even exposed to the true meaning of business and what businessman really do, let alone finance, acct. investing and all that.

When I came to the U.S around 10 years ago, I was still clueless about which field to pursue and remained clueless until my senior year in high school. I knew I had the passion and the drive to do the things that those people do out there on the wall street. From then on, I made up my mind and knew I wanted to pursue Business. Process of elimination also played a major role in my decision. One of my parents pressured me a bit to be a doctor but I had no patience or personality match to be either a doctor or artist. For engineering, I thought I loved to build things but it was All Show No Go (fail). Finally, I was debating between business and law (which in certain fields go together). After taking one or two law classes, I was very bored of all that …decided it wasn’t something for me (plus those 3 years of law school after undergrads …uff). So my first year of college (last year), I decided to try Introduction to Financial & Managerial Accounting. Not only that I loved it, I received personal comments from my accounting teacher that I was her most favorite student if I took off the longhorns hat that I wore every other day (cz she was an Aggie). Although some of the material was a little tough and I almost dig a hole in my study guide at one point, it was the subject that best fitted my personality plus I aced both courses.

Besides that, I am IN for the moeny lol…like maxellis said…the power and the WOMEN…who cares if you don’t get to bang a nurse when you dozens of secretaries working under you (if you know what I mean :)

^That has to be the worst reason so far.

“I tried everything else and hated it, then I took two BASIC courses and did well. I also want to make money and bang my secretaries”

The corporate world isn’t a porno. You don’t go around banging you secretaries unless you want a lawsuit slapped on you. Move along little horn-dog.

LMAO

It started off innocent enough

" The corporate world isn’t a porno. You don’t go around banging you secretaries unless you want a lawsuit slapped on you. Move along little horn-dog. "

lawsuits? ur obviously gonna give them something in return ;p

That’s not even funny… it’s just pathetic.

awww (10 char)

wow you guys are ridiculous…can’t you tell it was meant to be a joke…oh my bad …I forgot to put “its a joke” next to it…& If you guys can’t handle this, you better get a little social…anyways I’ll proceed with more care next time & maybe put a joke sign up. Som1 thx for not filing a lawsuit against me lol.

Besides that, plscatamacchia, I don’t know why you are deliberately trying to find faults in my reply…common!? the question was to share your reasons for choosing a business major and I noted everything that I experienced or felt in the past few years. Now if it doesn’t come out to be a pretty autobiography, not my fault. Just have fun …Trust me. Life is much better.

I’m having fun. You are the one who needs socializing. You don’t go around making sexist comments like “maybe you can’t bang a nurse but you have plenty of secretaries.” You get to an age where it’s not funny, it’s crude. Like someone said, it’s pathetic.

Whoever made the comment “women” is a different story. However the way you put it was ridiculously rude and would be rather offensive to most women, I would think. Women frequent these boards so maybe you could keep your fantasies to yourself, or at least don’t be so vulgar.

Handle it? I wasn’t shocked when I saw it or anything. I just thought that was really rude.

Make those comments in a workplace and you’ll find yourself in some courses you are ordered to take by your employer: Gender Sensitivity…

Now, again, move along horn-dog.

Uh, how do I put this…what?
