I got an email this evening that I’d been waitlisted. I’m quite disappointed, though I guess there’s still a chance that I’ll get in.
Anyway, who can give me an idea as to why I may have been not accepted?
-ECs: 6+ years of karate (I earned my Shodan black belt in October), Math club (incl. Mandelbrot and AMC competitions) Rubik’s cube competitions for 5 years, part time job at a golf course, Appalachia Service Project twice (1 week each repairing homes in impoverished Appalachia), NaNoWriMo participant and winner every year in high school
-Essay: Very strong.
-Recommendations: at least 1 of them was very strong. I can’t read the other two, but I would think they were very positive.
-Grades: 4.0/4.0 (I am homeschooled, so I don’t know how much weight they put on this… sigh)
-Senior classes: Argument, Counting and Probability, Intermediate Number Theory, 20th Century History, Physics, Spanish IV, PE, Intro to Programming, World Literature
-SAT (CR, M, W, Essay): 600 (It was a fluke low score. See the ACT score below), 790, 750, 8 (2140 Composite)
-ACT (Eng, Read, Math, Sci): 36, 36, 35, 35 (36 composite)
-SAT Subject Tests: 620 Spanish, 780 Math II, 700 Biology E
I can give more information if you want, but I think this is everything they received.
Welcome to the waitlist club Don’t fret. Consider your other options and if you still want to go to W&M, maybe send them a letter and additional teacher recommendation about why you feel you are a good candidate. Not much else we can really do.
As you know, there is, seemingly, a very random element to the college admissions process. I can’t imagine being an admissions officer, and deciding who to accept and who not to accept…what an impossible task! Your credentials are beyond impressive, and I believe you have something very special coming your way! Any college would be fortunate to have you on campus, and all of your hard work will land you in a place where you will grow and thrive! It breaks my heart to read entries that are filled with sadness, confusion, and disappointment. NEVER doubt yourself…you are amazing!
Did you get into JMU and George Mason? You have a great record and I would think you’d be an honors student at either of your other schools. W&M is very random. Good luck.
I got in at JMU and Mason, in the honors program at both (University Scholars at Mason!). I’m viewing this now as sort of a way to narrow down my list of options. I’ll probably just treat this as a rejection unless I get de-waitlisted before May 1. Now I only have to decide between 6 schools! (assuming I get in at Wake, Washington and Lee, and UNC Chapel Hill)
My daughter is in the same situation. Check your parents email because we got an email stating that they need another month for final decision… I would like to know if anyone else received this…C
Yeah i’m an oos student and got waitlisted too. Not surprised I didn’t get in, but a little surprised to be waitlisted, because I got rejected from less selective schools
