Quick question, I'm just wondering why do colleges look at the English ACT and not the reading ACT? It seems like the reading would be more in line with the Reading SAT???? This confuses me. Comments or replies would be great, thanks.

Where do you see that colleges only look at a specific part of the ACT?

It depends on schools. Most schools, I think, will look at all of your subscores.

On my Virginia Tech application status it says we have received your ACT math and English scores. I don’t know why it’s not reading and math.

Most schools but say, Gtech, Rose Hulman, etc only look at the composite score. Otherwise they look at the writing score + math + english. The english section is more correlated to the SAT CR than the reading section according to some studies.

IMO, the English ACT portion is more important than the Reading. On the Reading you have to be a speed reader to score in the higher 30s. Also on the Reading it seems to focus more on small, insignificant details rather than analyzing the passage, which I think is more important overall.

Bump bump bump bump

i scored a 32 on the English section, but a measly 24 on the reading section. Idk but that makes me kind of glad that they look at the english score.
