Cybermom you have that one right, it's actually only 60 miles less travel from SW Fla to FSU than we used to go when we lived in NY and had one in VA going to school, and then we had to go through Penna, Maryland, WV to get there. Florida is a big state. It's not the most optimum trip for a weekend.

^^^^^Same here, that's the same reason why I signed up.

I never realized it at the time I was a student, but over the years I've come to have substantial respect and affection for the university. Many kids probably cannot grasp why this would be so, but check your perspective in years to come. The phrase "alma mater" really fits.

FSU has the most alumni support of ANY university in Florida.

Well this Gator spent last session working in the Capital. One observation: FSU absolutely dominates Florida politics. You guys sure have alot to be proud of. Most UF alums have absolutely nothing against you guys. Ya, we may give you all a hard time in the Country Club, but always remember the respect is there.

^Obviously, a real UF graduate.

Scratch a Gator and many times you find Garnet and Gold. Scratch a Seminole and frequently you'll find Orange and Blue.

We can be rivals on the sports field, but almost everywhere else we need to be allies.

coming from oos, our perspective is a bit different. headed in to the florida college search process, we didn't have any preconceived feelings toward either university. Many of my s's friends and parents always say "why does your s want to go to school in florida". We always respond with "have you ever visited the florida universities?".

In our view, FSU, UF and the rest of the Florida universities are one of the best kept secrets up here.

After visiting UF and FSU we did notice a clear difference in the two campuses much of which has already been discussed in this thread. They are both fine places to go to school and you can't go wrong with either. It really depends on where you feel more comfortable. it does seem like there are more UF folks obsessing over FSU rather then the other way around.

My daughter applied to two schools as a transfer student - FSU and UNC Chapel Hill. UNC is consistently ranked among the top Universities in the country with the Ivy schools and way over UF.

We have friends who went to UNC as instate students and didn't believe she had a shot of getting in as OOS.

She got into both (UNC as out of state which is VERY difficult) and chose FSU (as instate) because she loved the campus and the general feel of the school not to mention the tuition difference.

Honestly, you could go to Harvard or Penn and if you aren't happy then you might not do as well.

I wouldn't want to take anything away from UF - they have a fine school with great fans and alumni. Just not our cup of tea...

She's very happy with FSU as her choice and that, at the end of the day, is really all that matters.

I have to agree with this. I don't know why, but I hear way more trash talk and bashing from gators about FSU then I ever hear from a seminole about UF. It is interesting.

I could say insecurity, lack of moral foundation and more...but I won't. ;)

I have too many family members from the other school. :)
