School report is a document that contain the grades of the current year, so if I’m applying to college I send the school report of the senior year on high school, correct? I’m wondering why do we send the school report just of the current year and not every year. At that case, isn’t the transcript enough?
The school report usually does not include first semester senior grades because reports are submitted around November/December/January.
but why the transcript isn’t enough? what is the meaning of the school report???
Your school might use different terminology than others – in my experience, “school report” as you define it would just be the transcript.
School reports inform basics so schools with different grading scales, class offerings, student populations can be viewed in context.
Some info contained:
Grading scale
AP/IB/honors classes offered
% kids who graduate in 4 yrs
% kids eligible for free/reduced lunch (indication of relative poverty level of community)
% graduates who immediate go to 2 yr and 4 yr colleges
Other special circumstances or explanations
Students don’t send them, your school sends them along with your transcript once you inform them of which colleges you’ll need transcripts for
School report generally refers to your ‘official’ transcript plus the school profile – both typically sent by your HS school counselor or your schools’ registrar, not by you. You are, however, responsible for the documents getting to your target schools. The Common App makes this very easy for the HS counselors, as they can simply upload the documents directly to the CA system for distribution to all of your schools. The Naviance system, used by a number of schools, has an extra step, but again it’s one that your HS will be responsible for sending.
For the record, a school profile is the document that allows the reader a snapshot of your school itself, i.e. how many AP’s on offer, the size of the student body, graduating class size, drop-out rates, ratio of teachers to students, how many students will go on to college, two-year school vs. four-year schools, etc.
The application reader can then see your specific accomplishments in context of your direct peers, even if they have no other knowledge or history with your HS.
You are correct that if you are applying EA, ED or early rolling decision, your transcript and profile will contain your transcript as of the end of junior year. Some school may defer an applicant to see their first semester of senior year grades - also known as the 7th semester grades - before making an admission decision.
If your grades through the end of junior year are strong, this should not be a problem.
I suggest that you check with your HS counselor now, to best anticipate the elements of your submissions in the Fall.
Good luck.
Since you’re an international student, your principal or headmaster will prepare this. Has your school had previous applicants to US colleges before?
No.
I suggest you post a question about School Reports on the International Students forum, then
