WHY do you believe in God?

getup01: I don't need to have read the entire Quran to know there are flaws, any more than I need to have read the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy to know there are contradictions. Perhaps this will help:

<a href="http://www.answering-islam.org/Quran/Contra/%5B/url%5D">http://www.answering-islam.org/Quran/Contra/</a>
<a href="http://www.carm.org/islam/Koran_contradictions.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.carm.org/islam/Koran_contradictions.htm</a></p>

All very intriguing evidence, but the person who made that page probably doesnt have enough knowledge of the Quran or the universe's laws/possibilities. I only read the first 10 or so of the page's "contradictions" only to find that they really arent contradictions, though they appear to be to the untrained eye. I really dont feel like disproving all of these, but the arguement the cite poses also has its flaws. you must realize that "muslim" simply means "one who gives himself up to God", therefore Islam doesnt say that EVERYONE who isnt a follower of it will go to hell. Christianity is considered its sister faith and that Muslims and christians will eventually "team up." Now, I dont claim to know everything about Islam, or even the majority, but even the small things that I DO know show that a lot of that cite is wrong.

Again, lets not bash religions, let just keep to the OP's subject.

Please, Can I bend all of your minds a little bit?

Ok Think about Adam && Eve
99.9% of the time they portray them as "white" in movies, bibles etc.

Now take this, if Adam && Eve were white, then how did latino/latina people start? black people start? asians? middle easterns? etc. && they said Adam && Eve were the first ones who and everybody startede from them making us all brothers && sisters

I'm not that gullible as to whole-heartedly believe the bible. It just seems doubtful to me

have anyone ever thought of this?

yes, but lets not bash religions. we can just as easily say that the descendants of Adam and Eve meandered around the world and adapted to their new environments by getting white skin and blue eyes to protect from cold and polarized light or that people became black to protect themselves from the direct harmful rays of the sun and the dry environments of the desert.

Adam and Eve are actually portrayed as middle eastern, not exactly white, sooo....

"or that people became black to protect themselves from the direct harmful rays of the sun and the dry environments of the desert."

LOLOLOL.....I don't think people back then were that knowledgable of UV rays or melanin in the skin

Even if they were middle eastern, it still doesn't take away from the question of how did the other races start?

noooooooo.... they didnt adapt on purpose. haha. it was natural selection to make them perfect for the environment, just as penguins evolved from some other bird so that they can be in cold regions.

getup01: I'm not "bashing religions"; I'm pointing out why I don't believe in them. Simply because my belief (and support provided for such belief) isn't in accordance with yours does not mean that I am "bashing" yours.

roxxy, going back a few posts, I vaguely remember that the catholic church (pope plus cardinals I think) just met is or is planning to meet on deciding whether or not purgatory exists, which I find quite amusing.

I knowww that getup....

Bottom Line:: If anything, I think that people should think twice before believing anything they read or hear. The things said in the bible came from AD && BC

Do you know how many years ago was AD && BC? A hell lot of years!!
My point? Information in the bible could've changed, things could've been tweaked as the years go by. With the exception of proverbs though because those are every day wise advice. But still, there may be alot of things changed as the years go by.

People that are living now weren't living in AD && BC so no one knows if the bible is true or if somebody made up the info inthe bible.

Its like the Urban Legend that no one really knows if John Harvard was a real person or whether he was the one that established Harvard University because Harvard was established in 1636 i think. && the people that lived then aren't living now

well, we should all see soon in 2012, right? haha. what do you guys think of the whole Mayan calendar prediction thing?

what happens to the people who live in isolated villages that have no clue organized religion exists? is it their fault they don't know religion? i'm still not understanding

Guys, This Thread Is Utterly Subjective And Will Only Lead To Disputes.

But that does not mean that these discussions should not happen. I'd hate to live in a world without disputes. (Good ones at least.)

exactly. chamilitary!!! I already said my opinion like 10 pages ago, but the Quran says that God sent 124000 prophets, atleast one to every tribe of the world that had become dissolusioned with religion. Therefore, ALL people have been given equal chance at divine knowledge. If you want to talk about today, they still have interaction with missionary groups and such things, so they again have more chances at knowing the Truth.

but there has to be a bunch of people who never knew about religion...and what about the people that died before the missionary groups arrived?

Chimilitary, of course its not their fault they're not concious of religion, thus leaving me still reiterating that "If God was an Undertsanding God" He would understand situations like that^^

Is God he or she? Or neither?

did God have a plan for transvestites?
