"I always think its funny to see the people who claim they take hard classes because they like learning and all that, and then see them freak out during the college admissions process because OMGZIhavetogetintothebestcollegeever. But wait, I thought you did all of those ECs and studying for enjoyment... hmmm"

In response to what applesauce said...it can be both at the same time. My dream is to get into Emory- it has been for a long time. But i also enjoy learning simply for the sake of learning. I may not get into Emory- ok. I'll go somewhere else and still love to learn.

To not be stupid and not know the difference between there, they're, and their, and when to use apostrophes and how to do basic math problems.

Well, that's why I care about doing well in school.

Why do I study hard?

I guess because I like it. I only study things a lot when I like them. Example? getting a 13% on my last English reading test, because I chose to self-study AP Physics.

Speaking of which, that test is Monday. I'm getting off this damned site.

So I don't go from the crappy institution that is high school to the crappy institution that is community college

So I don't look like all the dumba**es who say "Your so cool" or pronounce "nuclear" as "new-q-lar"

lol wut

Have you ever taken a class at a community college? Really, they are not all that ****ty. I'm dual enrolled, and I much prefer my local CC over my high school.

I think you'd fine much more serious kids at a community college than you would at some 4 year institution where mommy and daddy sent them with thousands of dollars tuition each year.

I meant like going there full time. Most people on CC would prefer a good community college class over a regular HS class.

Maybe the kids whose parents couldn't afford to send them to a regular school, but for the most part, kids who go to community college aren't serious about their work.

To Learn. I never study hard for school just the things I like to learn. I also have 1 extracurricular thats not even school sponosored and I only applied to one school I easily got into. I don't get anything for the studying I do other than the knowledge.

To make sure that you do get into a good college.
2.To make sure that you are not the dumbest in the class.
3.And mainly to make sure that you don't have 'study hard' for the rest of your lives

I never used to study before. I always thought you shouldn't have to go to school if you did not want to. I wanted to live out in the wild like we're supposed to like alexander supertramp or whatever. Finally, My independent day school asked me to leave because my grades were crappy in the middle of my sophomore year. All of my friends went to that school. When I left and had to go to public school, i hated it and skipped almost every single day. Then my sister (because my mom is an alcoholic and my dad (my best friend) died when i was 14 in eighth grade) sent me away to boarding school in New Hampshire to a second chance school. I've always felt like a very smart individual with a good understanding of how the world works. I just think its *****ed up how it works so i didnt want to be a part of it. Anyway, now i am a straight A student because there is nothing better to do in NH except learn about stuff. I feel ive given into the system i hate and now life is that much more depressing and difficult with way too many decisions about where to go to college and what you want to do with your life. Its messed up. BTW, you know there are genetically modified glow in the dark fish because scientists teamed up with pet stores think they will make money? So everybody gather round and get your freakin sweet fish! NOT! Also, religion is stupid because it was completely made up in hunter gatherer times to explain what could not be explained. I'm not saying there isnt some higher being but all these random rules and traditions is all bull. Finally, all of you are a slave to time and if you dont actually understand that it is an invention of mankind, your stupid. My apologies if i offended anyone but thats pretty messed up that what im typing can get other people angry. Peace out. (because fighting is stupid too)

Because I want to do something important with my life.
Because I want to make a dent in the universe.
Because I have a tough time admitting that somebody is better than me.
Because I am attending the 8th best school for physics in the US, but there are three higher on that list that don't think I'm good enough.
That's why I study hard.

I don't really like the whole connotation of "studying hard".
I like to think of it as active learning.
If you're studying, it, to me, sounds like work or rote memorization.

If I truly want to grasp a subject, I don't "study" or observe it, I learn it. Maybe it's just my way of learning. I don't need to study; if I pay enough attention to the concept the first time and clarify my grasp of it, the subject matter sticks.

Studying is reserved for doing well on tests which contain information I'm not interested in. Learning is completely different.

That's just me though. It's how my brain works. I find myself doing more studying, and not enough learning in HS. Things you learn are forever with you, things you study... that's a wash.
