why does everyone drink the Obama kool-aid?

Former President Bush had a 90% approval after 911 when everyone realized the country had to pull together to meet a threat. If Mickey Mouse had been President, he would have had a 90% approval rating.

President Obama faces challenges which are actually more difficult than the ones W. faced. Its easy to whack third world countries with the best military in the world, even though some casualities are suffered. It is hard to fix an economy plagued by unprecedented disfunctions.

The Great Depression of 1929 happened after an unprecedented and massive buildup of American industrial infrastructure. All we had to do to recover and win WWII was put the existing factories to work on weapons and require almost everyone to contribute to the war effort in some way.

Now American industry is in ruins. Our "wealth" is strip malls, office towers and overpriced real estate. There is no real economy to recover. The bailouts are not addressing the root cause of the problem; the decline in the American job base caused by out sourcing of industrial production. When the recovery comes the beneficiaries will be the societies that have the factories.

In the nine months between his inauguration and 9-11, Bush's approval ratings had declined to less than 50%--more people disapproved than approved of the job he was doing. After the spike following the invasion of Afghanistan in early October, his ratings never stopped dropping.

Big G is probably right that Mickey Mouse could have captured those ratings after 9-11. It is difficult to see how Obama could possibly remind anyone of Bush. They came from backgrounds as different as night and day. Bush got the job despite his prior failures because he was a legacy chosen by the conservative king-makers. Obama came from nowhere completely on his own and against long odds. He won his support despite the party king-makers (Clinton machine) not because of them. Bush's campaigns were run on fear, Obama's on intellect and inspiration. Obama's policies are certainly fair game for criticism, but there is little similarity between him and GB.

Opie, you're right that Reagan sucked as a president. He expanded the government and created a precedent of uncontrolled spending.

However, the last dumbass in office was Bush The Sequel.

Bennie nailed it.

Obama won because he had more money than McCain. He bought this thing with your money. For all those who were so excited about change and aren't seeing or getting any, you are now feeling what is called buyer's remorse. Get used to it - Obama is a continuation of Bush.

He had more money than Bush because those who want to invest in our future (like me) were happy to contribute to Obama. About "change": how long has Obama been in office? What do you suggest he should have done in the last couple of weeks?

haha, it's only been a couple of weeks

I think these right wing personalities expected obama to part the atlantic ocean in between day 6 and 7. They figure God made the earth in 6 days, obama can at least perform some minor miracle.

Yeah, and isn't it funny how many scandals there have been in the new politics in such a short time?

God, Barack and all those scandals, he must be impeached quickly and decisively, time can only ruin this country, waiting for him to turn around and show his powers is not an option. Forget Mccain, Sarah Palin would have been such a good fit for the white house, i wish to one day be a hockey mom like her (pitbulls with lipstick baby!) ah morningside, i see the light of day!!! you are a genius, how do you manage to complete my world like this, are you single!?

Back off CC, he's mine!

Zero isn't that big of a number.

The amount of political and historical ignorance on display in this thread is so staggering it's an embarassment to my alma mater. Nobody is trying to convince anyone else of anything, you're just trying to make yourselves feel smarter.

For the love of god, would the actual Columbians here leave well enough alone? Let morningside have his echo chamber. He's playing you all for fools by trolling the hell out of you, and you're all biting like lemmings.

Let. It. Go.

Naw, we're just throwbacks, Denzera--it's you he was trying to coax to the top. He's headed back to the dock now.
