I think senior year itself is really expensive… prom just adds to all that, which sucks. :/

^^That’d be so exciting!!!

And no, I haven’t taken it yet.

Do it! Like now! Because if you do poorly, you can always take it one more time before you have to go for orientation. But if you wait, you’ll only be able to take it once.

I’ll do it tomorrow. Maybe.

My prom is 15 bucks…although it sucks…it’s still cheap lol

Prom is only as expensive as you make it.

Last year, I spent quite a bit of (my parents’) money
Dress: $200
Mani Pedi: $90 (I think)
Ticket: $35
Purse: $300 (I bought this myself though, not the rents)
Hair: $85, maybe but my hair costs at minimum $60 a month

I won’t be buying a new purse, but obviously, I’ll have to have my hair done. I’d like to get a Mani/Pedi if they’ll let me (everyone takes their shoes off at our dances, so pedis are a necessity, the need for manis is obvious). I want a floor length dress this time around, and those are usually a bit more, but I’m really loath to the idea of spending my own money since I’m saving for a purse.
Oh, and tickets will probably be more this year, since the junior class hosts it and supplements what tickets pay off with its own money. The class of '11 is poor. The party favors will also suck, most likely, since they’re poor. We all got water bottles stuffed with Swedish fish.

Haha romani I guess its good you know you’re closed minded to certain types of people. My personal opinion is the guy should pay if he can, but I also agree that he should be offering, not being forced too. I respect women who want to pay, but I’m a more traditional kind of guy, so I like to pay. It’s a pride thing, you know? Not masochistics, just sort of thing like “I can be responsible.”

^ Why can’t the woman be “responsible”?

And I never said I was open to different types of people. I am extremely intolerant of conservative/out-dated principals. I make no bones about that.

Maybe some guys like doing things for the girl. An example would be when she can’t take the lid off of a pickle jar and needs his help.

It’s also kinda like how some girls like tying the guy’s tie.

But I don’t like it when a guy thinks he has to (or even worse, that he should) pay for the girl.

your one of them feminists aren’t you.

dammmmmmmm milan!!!

You guys are lucky your tickets are so cheap. I already paid the down payment for going down to the shore and some other stuff, still have to get a tux and all that though. Hell, some people in my grade are contemplating skipping prom and only going to the shore because it’s so expensive.

No .

im a guy btw, the guy should pay for everything because guys r expected to bring the bread home

■■■■■■ aren’t funny after they’ve been on here 2 months.

I wanted to buy my own ticket and pay for half of dinner last year, but alas, my bf is chivalrous to a fault. It’s a tad annoying actually, since he’s paying for his entire college education with his own hard-earned money, whereas I have babysitting money saved up for whatever I want.

But limos are unnecessary unless everyone in your group is drinking. My group’s taking two minivans so we can still be together…hell yeah for middle class suburbia.

dammmm glasses you should come with me. I’ll let you buy your ticket!

Since when did feminist become such a dirty word? The vast majority of posters here are probably feminists, at least in terms of their position on gender equality, whether or not they actively pursue that equity. Feminists simply believe that men and women are equal.

^ Modern feminists are extreme who almost believe that women should be treated better than men. Modern feminists are borderline crazy (sorry, it’s true). When they do things like going topless in Central Park to protest the fact that men can go topless and men can’t, it’s ridiculous. They should take that energy and passion and put it towards something worthwhile for women- like the fact that women pay much more for their health than men or something along those lines.

^That’s third wave feminism though. I’m with you on its stupidity, it’s a topic in every phone call with my sister. The way that recent feminists have concentrated on ideological issues of the rich and predominately white rather than material issues of the poor and oppressed bothers me immensely (eg: the popular feminist position against marriage, when getting into a stable, legally recognized marriage is statistically one of the best things a low income, low socioeconomic status woman can do for herself). I can understand anyone’s wanting to distance themselves from that sort of feminism, but not from the idea itself. If anything, people who don’t agree with third wave feminism should proudly identify themselves as feminists who care about real issues and pursue real progress, to take back the word.

^ Oh no, I completely agree. I’m just saying that’s why feminism is now a dirty word and why I distance myself from it.

FWIW- I don’t like marriage either. Actually, it’s not marriage I mind, it’s the “wife” role. My fiance already knows that I’m not going to be his “wife” any more than he’s going to be my “husband”. Neither of us fit the roles that those words bring to mind. Instead, we’re going to be “partners”, nothing more, nothing less :).
