I recently got postponed at liberal arts with a 27 ACT and a 3.45 GPA and honestly I was a bit surprised. Just a year ago my friend got into liberal arts with a 26 and a 3.4..and she applied later than I did. Look at OSU for example (which is arguably a better school)...it has a huge student body and tons of people applying like minnesota. Yet, it is not nearly as competitive as minnesota has gotten. I am just curious as to why it is so much more competitive...and does anyone think I still have a chance of getting in since I am very intrested in attending.

When you jst look at the numbers, how many ppl in WI r applyin to Uminn. Like a billion! Even the great escape ppl r gettin in these days. I think u still have a chance if Blacher doesn't end up goin, which means more space 4 u!

like zouman said, there are a ton of people eligible for in state tuition at minnesota. the umn is trying to gain the prestigious reputation that every university longs for, and they won't be able to gain attention without being a bit more selective.

The U of Minnesota is finally getting into line with the rest of the state: the greatest state in the union! For evidence, see:

By the way, I have a lot of pride in being a Minnesotan. :)

I'm sure it benefits from Minneapolis being such a great city as well.

My son hasn't visited the campus yet, but he will need to given that they just offered him the equivalent of a full tuition scholarship+some yesterday. I guess we'll make a little weekend trip to Mall of America one of these long weekends (we're down here in 'warm' Nebraska :) ).
