NYU should be on that list. It is certainly on par with many of the schools on the list. I choose it over UVA and CMU and I haven’t regretted it for a second.

Try a different ranking

The QS WUR’s methodology is almost entirely centered on the institution’s reputation/research in the area of empirical sciences at the graduate level, with little to almost no regard towards social sciences/humanities/arts/entry standards. If we are talking about the quality undergraduate education holistically, this is not the ranking that you should be referencing.

@askjeeves that makes little sense. Look at our rankings by department, our rankings in the “empirical sciences” such as Engineering and Nat Sci are not high. It is our rankings in the Arts and Social Sciences that put us at 44 in the world. 44 btw is above WUSL and Dartmouth. I’m just putting on a different raking system so people might understand that there is no consensus on which universities are ranked above others. All I know is that NYU is at the very least as good as many of the universities on the list.

NYU
Arts & Humanities15
Natural Sciences 70
Engineering & IT 189
Social Sciences 18
Life Sciences 54

NYU is just as prestigious as any other one of those mentioned schools in certain programs. The reason it probably does not make the cut is because of certain programs colleges at NYU have that may be a little weaker or not as developed as the ones offered at other universities since NYU tends to be focused on its artistic programs more than its scientific ones. Therefore, other universities may be better ranked overall; however, NYU has certain programs that are far better than the same ones offered at the universities in that list.
