According to the official NYU Stern website (NYU Stern), the average SAT score (math + CR) is 1445 yet the average GPA is 3.76 (not exactly "low" low, but lower than other business schools). Stern also has the fourth highest average SAT score in the top undergraduate schools (according to Businessweek, the only schools that trump Stern in average SAT score are UPenn Wharton, MIT Sloan and WashU Olin, all incredibly prestigious schools).

So essentially what I'm asking- does NYU Stern put more weight/importance on SAT scores than other schools do?

3.76 is high, not low.

Nonetheless, if the average GPA of incoming Stern students is still lower than the average GPA of incoming students at certain other schools, and vice versa for SAT, then I think it’s safe to presume that Stern places more weight/importance on SAT relative to GPA than these other schools.

Reported GPAs at US colleges and universities are all over the map. Some colleges report unweighted GPAs. Others report GPAs as reported to them by the various high schools. (The high schools themselves use dozens of different forumlas to devise their GPAs) Some colleges recalculate GPAs using their own weighting system and that is what they report.

My guess is that Stern is using unweighted averages and that the typical admit has a 1445 SAT and a high A- average in a very demanding or most demanding curriculum.

anyone know the average ACT for CAS only. i know collegeboard has NYU ACT average overall…
