why isn't rochester more "famous"?

U of R is listed in the top USNews universities as #34 -- tied along with BC and NYU, but how come it seems like U of R isn't as wellknown or FAMOUS as BC or NYU? :( I was talking with my parents today (I'm from MA, I'm also applying to BC) and they were somewhat concerned as to my #1 choice at the moment because they'd never heard of the school, and said they'd rather me go to somewhere like BC... I dunno :(

Any opinions?

Probably because it is located in Rochester. Rochester is an OK city, but it is not anything like Boston or NYC. Lots of people want to go to school in BC or NYC so the schools attract more attention. And BC is Div. 1 in sports so they get a lot of exposure from that as well. UR is a fine school and is well recognized in academic circles even if it is not as well known publicly.

I live very close to UR. It's the perfect size, and a great location - right on the river & close to the airport.

My daughter, a high school junior, has been there for several events. She loves the campus, and says it would be perfect -if it weren't five minutes from home!

The problem (as I see it) with UR is that Rochester doesn't have a great reputation. As shennie wrote, UR is in Rochester - which is very very different from Boston or NY.

also it needs some more time... it's been changing, and it's starting to be seen more reputably, but it needs more time for that to continue
