Why isn't UCSD in the "CC Top Universities" List?

LOL. And students from UCLA say they have overtaken Cal, and Cal kids say they have overtaken half the privates on USnews top 20. It's a cycle.

But it's true. I mean Cal has contributed more to humanity with the discovery of some elements and with the unix revolution.

"But it's true. I mean Cal has contributed more to humanity with the discovery of some elements and with the unix revolution."

the internet was invented at UCLA...beat that

UCLA = Cal > UCSD

I didn't know Al Gore went to UCLA

Me neither.

who said al gore invented the internet?

In post #21, I wasn't comparing Berkeley to UCLA but was rather reinforcing that Berkeley is much better than most schools on the US News top 20.

But then you came a long and said 'UCLA = Cal' for no reason.

UC Merced better than UCR? Hah.

But guys, you should know that the CC Top Universities are determined by some list produced every 10 years or so from a particular ranking. Just ask Roger_Dooley, or maybe someone who knows will come around and tell us what is used.

Citan - Al Gore said Al Gore invented the internet. If you wanna refute Al Gore, go ahead, but I hear he gets fiesty.

better as in what?

Better in Engineering (especially computer science), Mathematics, Business. Just look through the Berkeley forum, you spend enough time there already.

really? how would you judge that? by rankings? I guess by that standard, UCSD should be in the Top CC University List....

"you spend enough time there already"

um...not really

As far as the undergrad level is concerned, UC Berkeley and UCLA are supposedly more or less equal. The education is the same, although Berkeley is more prestigious. However, UCLA students do have a slight advantage since we have an honors program that apparently Berkeley lacks. At the grad level, yes, its true that UC Berkeley is ahead of us in most fields and miles ahead in others (physics and engineering come to mind). But UCLA is getting better and I'm confident that in 10 or 20 years, we'll have the same quality of graduate programs and the same level of prestige as our sister to the north.

We have honors programs. You just have to write an honors thesis first.

Matt30

It is true that Cal has an honors thesis program for each major (what would be called "departmental honors" at UCLA) where you have to write a lengthy research paper on a topic within your field of study. But I was referring to the "honors collegium," honors classes that anyone can take. Honors students here have to take 28 units of honors credit to finish the program.

From what I've seen most majors do offer the honors thesis program. Off the top of my head, I know the English department offer this as well as the IFS department.

Also, please change your username if you want to go to Cal. I get so much shti for my sn :( Plus, you're only 19 posts in :)

Actually, I didn't get into Cal, so I chose UCLA (which was my dream school to begin with). But I respect both schools equally. After my B.A., I'm going to apply to Cal for Law school.

Out of curiosity, what university do the cardinals belong to?

stanford.....

Stanford (10 chars)

lol yeah, it's always good to make your name something neutral.
Although it won't totally prevent you from getting flamed (like my case) from other people, at least people won't start any shiit wit you for no reason as long as you don't start it first.
