Why no LA Unifeds talked about

So we are from the West Coast and I have connected with a few folks on this site from the West Coast but it appears most of the posters are Mid or East Coast folks. Anyone want to speculate why? This is just a fun post for distraction but I am really fascinated by the demographics of this site.

I think there are plenty of people on this forum from the West Coast. That is a different issue than the subject heading of your thread about LA Unifieds. Many who live on the West Coast may not attend those and go to Chicago Unifieds or to various campus auditions. I have been on CC for about 13 years and have observed participants from every state in the US, and other countries as well. Also, as a college counselor, I have advised many MT applicants from CA, some whom have participated here and some not. A great majority of MT programs are on the Eastern half of the country. But participants here are from ALL over. I don’t know how long you have been reading CC, but my post reflects having read thousands of posts over 13 years.

I have known people from the west who do NY or Chicago unifeds rather than LA b/c they “fit” better in schedule (they are earlier). There are plenty of super cool west coasters on this forum: shout out to @halflokum and @bisouu

Soozievt you are so correct I did assume that West coast people would be more likely to go to LA, Midwest to Chicago and East to NY, and that you would have equal discussion on all three locations. I have not read for very long. Glad to hear from you and toowonderful that readers are from all over and that the lack of discussion about LA is for other reasons. I have chatted with a few participants from last years LA Unifieds which was helpful.

I think LA Unifieds get less discussion, agreed. But that is not due to a lack of participants on CC from West Coast people. None of the West coast kids I have advised have attended LA Unifieds (that is a small sample of course). I have a niece who is now out of college who attended LA Unifieds, but lives in Alaska.

Also, no matter where people live, some don’t attend ANY Unifieds. My MT kid grew up in Vermont and only did on campus auditions.

Hey we are West Coast (Los Angeles) and my daughter did Chicago Unifieds. The main reason we didn’t do LA Unifieds was that my d’s audition coach felt that since they are last, many of the auditors have already filled most of their classes and/or are tired. She suggested Chicago so that’s what we did. We used LA as a back up in case d got sick, but that luckily didn’t happen. She also did several local auditions – Chapman, CalArts, USC and Marymount Manhattan had an LA one.

We are West Coast and also did the Chicago Unifieds. We scheduled some on-campus auditions around it.

We are doing LA Unifieds the Chicago dates did not work for us. If it is true and I hope not that by LA your odds are worse than maybe we should have squeezed in the NY Unifieds. For some reason the NY Unifieds sounded a bit more complicated than even the Chicgao and LA ones:) Also doing some on campus. We are fitting LA Unifieds and on campus over a school break except one visit. We are only doing 8 schools total.

Please make sure you have a safety that you love <3

She has a safety but has not visited. I have told her that if she does not get into a program that she wants to attend or if she does not get in anywhere I would really suggest she take a gap year. Unwind, do some programs and work and reapply. We have not visited any schools except for two local ones that gave her some idea of school environments and one had a MT program, BA. She already knew she did not want either school, one huge, one smallish and very urban. We did try and get the range of difficulty into her choices, a few hard several medium and a few easier, but she knows the answers might be no from everyone.

We are just north of LA and my daughter did LA Unifieds twice (she ended up tranferring mid-way) with very good results. Being late in the season did not seem to affect her results. The only on-campus audition she did was UCLA because they don’t attend Unifieds. We did not want to spend the money or time to attend multiple east coast auditions.

I would not worry or assume that many schools may have filled their classes or have very few slots left. Only a few schools accept BFA in MT applicants on a rolling basis. Many wait to fill the class until all audition dates are over. While my kid did not do Unifieds, she got into several highly selective BFA in MT programs that she auditioned for on their final on campus audition dates. Schools are not going to carry out auditions if there is nothing in it for them.

We’re in the LA area as well. My S had a choir performance that conflicted during LA Unifieds so we’re doing NY. Plus, he has a few NY schools on his list as well, so it makes the most sense. West Coast represent!

Thank you to everyone on their feedback. Dankadon good luck in NY.

I’m a west coaster (Seattle) and I’m going to LA for most of mine but I am also going to NYC because there is no dance call for Roosevelt/CCPA Dance Emphasis in LA! I also just want to go to NYC because I have never been

L.A people here and we did both Chicago and LA Unifieds. The LA Unifieds are very well attended by lots of auditioners, and there are many CC and non-CC parents of current MT and Acting students who help by manning check-in tables for their kids’ east coast schools. (Remember that CC doesn’t represent the whole auditioning pool. To this day, I’m amazed to meet very informed, active MT people who’ve never heard of CC!)

We are West coast doing both Chicago and LA – 7 in Chicago 5 in LA – we needed both. It is really hard for us west coasters to get to campuses – so unifieds really help. Many of my Midwest friends did almost all on campus - I am always astounded how many programs are in Ohio vs the very few BFA here in LA…

Well you guys get the weather and the ocean (and the cool factor) - so we here in Ohio need SOMETHING

Hee hee, too wonderful so true. But the Midwest has fantastic people as well as all those wonderful liberal art colleges and performance programs.

AND we have water
