why should i apply? it's good for my major..but so are a lot of universities

the campus is definitely not gross… haha wow

its no longer really georgetown rejects either. If you have any specific questions, concerns, or want to share what your are looking for in a school, we’ll be happy to respond.

For starters, whats your major?

saw that while googling

Religion

“Son of Russian Spy” never enrolled. Nice gossip though.

The “GW” Georgetown Waiting term is long gone! Every year GW becomes more selective and competitive, although not yet Georgetown’s stats. You have to like an urban school environment, although GW offers the Mount Vernon campus also.

My “S” is in the ESIA’s class of 2014. Here’s 1 exmple of GW’s benefits: He is interning part-time with his US Senator on Capitol Hill this semester. The transportation logisitcs are easy given the metro stop right on campus. At GT you’d have to take a shuttle bus to a metro stop.

2 - He will be staying on-campus this summer and working a the State Dept. He can walk the 2 blocks! GW allows underegraduate students to stay in the dorms during the summer for housing.

Enough said.

CJ

You def should not apply. Seriously. No tools allowed.

Religion, you are ■■■■■. We don’t need you in our school.

My S, a freshman Political Science major, would also like to stay in DC this summer and work (even non-paid work) for a governmental agency or NGO. How did your son go about finding his summer position?

fouryears

Have your son sign-up on the various governmental/NGO websites/jobsites to be notified of student opportunities, internships, jobs, etc. For example, the State Dept has a great website for college students and notifies them by e-mail of openings. Now I have to admit things are difficult for freshman, but the GW Career Center is a great place to start for internships, jobs this summer. Your son should be signed up for “GWORK” which is GW’s website to search for Internships, job openings etc.

I have to admit -I’ve had to get him motivated, but the alternative was to come home for the summer to a rural area and be bored to death! He subsequently got it together!

Key - GW Career Center! they reviewed his Cover ltr and resume and had it back to him in 48 hours with corrections! A great resource - even for freshman.

CJ

Thanks for all the good advice, CJ! I will start “pushing” my S today.

Re: Ravens56 Comments

Yes, GW is very expensive, but gives decent FA and scholarships (if qualified) - even merit aid which the ivy’s do not.

Campus is urban - like many colleges in the country. Know that up front. Of course that’s a selling point in my opinion to be “in” DC and near a metro station.

Clearly some wealthy students, but also a group who is on scholarship and FA - probably 50%?? You can find your own group of friends/organizations/greek life etc.

Food - most agree it’s poor. Lots of Starbucks!! Most students get off the student meal plan ASAP. Fortunately, there’s a pelthora of reasonably priced restaurants. Plus - upperclass dorms have great kitchens where you can actually cook!

Fashion - have to defer - “S” doesn’t worry about this. May be an issue with the “D”'s.

If my “S” would have not gotten the scholarship/FA he did - there was no way we would have footed the bill for GW. However, the total “Cost” of GW is kind of like buying a car - not many pay full sticker price ;)

CJ’s Comments (Glass half full)

Agree CJ. One more thing: GW’s excellent alumni network, which will help tremendously upon graduation.
