Why??

…did I have to take AP Calc this year?? I feel so incredibly stupid and in more ways than one.

At the beginning of the year, I actually went to my councilor with the intention of dropping that class, because I am not, well- good at math. After talking with my counselor though, and after he talked about the importance of having good classes senior year, I reconsidered and thought that-- maybe this year would be different?

Well, no. This year of math wasn’t any different from last year. In fact, I’m doing quite worse.

And it’s not senioritis. I have not been slacking off, at least anymore than I had last year. In fact, I have been working harder but I haven’t been working hard enough obviously because most likely, I will have a big fat “D” (I have never gotten a D before) for this semester. Maybe I will scrape by with a C- but I’m not getting my hopes up.

QUESTION: Apart from the D, I have a B in one class, and the rest are A’s. I have applied to UC and I am wondering: what is the likelihood of me being dropped? Also, if I am to apply for other colleges Jan 15, and the semester ends early February would colleges see my mid-year report in reviewing my application?

Of course, if I get dropped and end up going to some community college, it would suck because it would be like everything that I have worked for, all those classes that I had taken to have the edge to get into college, all those nights cramming…all for nothing?

Unfortunately, the colleges you apply to will see your midyear grades. You could have your counselor write the colleges a note to go with the midyear report talking about how you challenged yourself in a weak subject instead of taking the easy way out. This will decrease the negative effect of the D on your transcript.
Good luck!
