^ It’s for both students and parents though there might be separate activities for them at certain times. It’s very common for parents to come. I would even say nearly every student I saw was accompanied by their parents.

Are the students housed separately from the parents then? From the email I received, it said that the prospective student would spend two nights with a current student.

If they are paying for you to come then you are housed with a student. Your parents, however, will need to find and pay for their own lodging. There are a list of hotels and the rates where they can possibly stay on the web site. My son is going alone as most of the time they have student only activities so you would rarely see your parents.

Whichever school you ultimately choose, the experience is going to be less defined by the campus than the people you meet and the friends you make. Fortunately, you’re in a no-lose situation whichever school you attend.

If a student attends Wildcat days (but NU is not paying transportation), can they stay in a dorm, or do they have to find a hotel nearby. (The student, not the parent.)

My understanding is you have to make your accommodations and that only the ones Northwestern is paying for will stay with students in the dorm. I would call or e-mail them to confirm though. See below.

If you are having any problems registering for Wildcat Days or have additional questions not addressed on this Web site, please e-mail or call us at 847-491-7271 during normal business hours (CDT).

Also, they do have rates negotiated with hotels in the area. Check the link below:

Ugh, really frustrated. I can’t realistically afford to fly out to Chicago right now, but I really want to attend Wildcat Days so I can make a decision. I just called the admissions office and was told that no financial assistance is being offered for travel expenses… when a few people here have been offered that. I’d like to think that the person I spoke with just wasn’t aware and this wasn’t an outright lie.

I’m revisiting a few other places this month that are within driving distance, and I just feel like I won’t be giving NU a fair shot if I don’t get to have a second look at it between now and May 1st.

For those that were offered to have their travel expenses covered, what was the process for acquiring that money? Who were you told to contact and/or what number were you told to call?

My son received his through a second e-mail right after his acceptance e-mail. He was a QuestBridge applicant but I don’t know if that was the reason or it was just based on our low EFC. It’s not something he asked for or requested.

Thanks Kdog, but did that email indicate who he should call or explain the process for getting the money to cover the cost?

The e-mail indicated to contact a particular travel agency once he registered for the event but I don’t remember the name. I assume the admissions office would have given them a list of names.

I got the email and called the travel agency. They ask for your name and birthday, so I believe they were given a list of students.

For those who called, how exactly does it work? I called and received an email with the flight information, is there anything else I need to do or will I just be given more information over the next week or so?

I called and was told that the students would be sent an e-mail soon with information on where to find the shuttles that will pick you up from the airport and take you to the university. They will also take you back to the airport Tuesday.

So this might be a dumb question, but do I just take the email that I got from the travel agency to the airport and get the boarding pass there?

Yea, you might need the record locater number if there’s a glitch, although you should already be on the flight roster.

Okay so when we arrive at the airport, where is the Northwestern shuttle? How do we get to it? lol.

You should have received an e-mail from NU about this. My son did and it mentions a luncheon or something at the O’Hare Hilton before departing for the campus by shuttle.

Yup. I received it today. So excited!! :)
