Will a bad first-semester GPA ruin my chances of transferring?

I attend NYU Stern as a freshman and I have a 3.2 GPA. I want to transfer into either Wharton or another Ivy League (not really satisfied with NYU). If I get around 3.7-4.0 second semester, would that balance out my bad first semester GPA? Would it even get considered? Should I just wait another year to transfer as a junior?

I was very active and got great grades in high school, and I wouldn't want those to go to waste, either.

The most a school will see is your midterm grades for sp sem when they make a decision for fall 2013 transfers, so your fall grades are important.

Did you apply to those schools as a fr admit? If you did and were denied/WLed, and your gpa was not high first sem of fr year at a lower school, how do you think higher ranking colleges will see this?

10% chance

See [Transfer Admission - Penn Admissions](Transfer Admission | Penn Admissions)
Also, [Wharton School | Transfer - Penn Admissions](Curricular Requirements | Penn Admissions)

^

 1. The OP is talking about Warton, not Penn in general.

Although 10% of transfers were admitted overall, that doesn’t mean each candidate had the same odds of being accepted.

So I’m kind of screwed until I get my GPA up, which might take me til the end of sophomore year?
