Will a C in fresh eng hurt you a lot?

i came to US in freshmen year, and i got a C on it. I heard Caltech dont accept anyone who has a C on their transcript, is it true?

Not true. Your case is exactly the kind of situation in which we would understand the reason and not penalize you. If your grades later are better, your application will get its fair chance at admission.

how about if it's math?
i mean, i came to the US also in my freshman year, but in May, right before the end of the school-year, and i got 75 (dont know if it's D or C) in math
will that one hurt a lot?

C's or D's in Math are certainly eyebrow-raising. If there was a really good excuse, and perfect A's in math for the rest of the time, it could get brushed under the rug. C's in English are more understandable (you're learning to speak english), but in theory you learned Math in your old country and it's not that different here... Basically, find something to show it was a fluke - do well on the AMC/AIME, get perfect A's from here on out, take college math (multivariable, diff eq, etc.) and do very well there, etc. Low grades in math are much more troublesome than low grades in English.

Galen

thanks Galen
i'll try my best

Very well said, Galen. I have nothing to add.

Cheer up Hriundeli. I got the lowest grade in my precalc class for first semester(C). I got the highest grade next semester, and got a 5 on the Calc BC exam later that year(sophomore year). If you just work hard, things fall into place.

i know one of my math team teammate who had a B in precalc is going to be a caltech freshman, and his major is math.

it wasnt even precalc...it wasnt even trigonometry or stuff like that...
i dont what it was, but it was easy (he-he). And on my second day of school i had to take the test...wthout knowing anything

for the sophmore year i got a 100 for math,

anyhow, i got your point
thanks a lot for the advice (advise) (spelling?)(lol)
