Will a non-athlete have problems fitting in?

Notre Dame is my first choice school right now. I love the campus and the school spirit and both my parents were legacies. However, I've heard that sports are a huge part of life there and I'm not very athletic. I enjoy going to sporting events and everything, but I don't play them myself. Would this be a problem?

Absolutely NOT! You will be just fine and you might find that you may want to consider an intramural team sport, dorm team or club sport. These activities are much more relaxed than formal sports teams, but only if you are interested.

Our grad never played a sport in HS-came to ND and joined a club sport team. Helped to meet people and I guess offered some amount of exercise. Enjoyed every minute of it!

Totally agree with ND AL. You will be just fine.

My son is a freshman and never played HS sports. He has joined a club sport (much to my surprise) and is really enjoying it. It provides great exercise and a great way to meet people.

One of the many things that ND stresses is to expand your horizons. After you see all of the various activities and clubs you may find yourself getting involved in ways you never thought of…so definitely put your concerns to rest.

I am one of the least athletic people ever and I fit in just fine. I used to swim in high school, but never joined any club teams or anything at ND. So, while it may be fun to expand your horizons by playing intramural sports, you certainly won’t find yourself limited socially if you do not- there are tons of other things to get involved in!

Completely agree with all post above. I had similar concerns before my D attended ND. But it has been a non-issue. She loves the football weekend.

I am currently an undergraduate at Notre Dame. I didn’t play any sports in high school and have fit in perfectly. There are all sorts of activities to get involved in if you just look around! GO IRISH!
