I’d like to take a foreign language class at my CC this summer just out of interest. I don’t need it, but it’s just something to do this summer! After this semester, I will have completed all of my pre-reqs and 60 UC transferable units. I have no coursework planned for summer, and my registration date is tomorrow. I don’t want to add the class if it will affect my potential acceptance to Cal. Is it too late to report added classes? Anyone know anything about this?
I’d let them know you plan on taking it after you are accepted. It should be fine, since its not anything important. However, don’t fail it!
You can take CCC courses prior to your fall enrollment. Just make sure to send the transcript when you complete it.
Thanks for the responses! Should I report it prior to taking the class and earning a grade? Or just submit the transcript with the grade on it?
Yeas, I agree with luckie. Let them know.
Let your counselor know you will be taking a class via email or phone.
When the class is completed, send in an official transcript with the grade.
Make sure that the credits won’t impact your admission. Some UC’s are strict about going over the required number of credits. Ask Berkeley.
I will take a different position from what the others have said, and suggest that you don’t take it. It’s cool that you want to take a class purely for the sake of learning, but is it worth even the smallest chance of jeopardizing your admission status? What if something out of the ordinary happens and you somehow get a D? I know most people would probably disagree with being so overly cautious, but I just don’t think it’s a good idea to put any other obstacles in between yourself and going to Berkeley next year, as you have already faced enough just to be a competitive applicant. Also, I think it’s a good idea to take a break from academics for a few months so you can go there refreshed in the fall and not get burnt out halfway through the semester.
Yeah, you make a very good point. While I don’t think I will get a non-passing grade, the school environment can be exhausting. A break does sound nice. I really just want to learn the language, and this is the first time in the past two years when I’ve had the time to actually do it. Taking it from my CC is really just the easier and cheaper option. Maybe I can find another way to learn it!
Can you do it P/NP?
I have same question as op. I’m planning to take some real estate classes and this summer to sit for the exam next year. Also 1 physics (just for personal preference) Mostly are non-transferable courses. Will this affect much? Idk if I take p/np will affect my qualification to sit for the exam
They’re non-transferable, so no, it won’t affect anything.
