I want to take Calc 1 at De Anza College in the summer, which is a Quarter System. I currently go to West Valley College, which is Semester. Will Calc 1 transfer over to West Valley?

First quarter calculus will be approximately 2/3 of the first semester of calculus. Two quarters of calculus will be approximately the first semester and 1/3 of the second semester of calculus.

It is best to take the entire sequence, or at least three quarters or two semesters, under the same academic calendar in order to transfer credit without having to partially repeat courses in which you have partial coverage for.

Exactly, pick one or the other! West Valley’s 1st semester calculus will be equivalent to De Anza’s MATH 1A AND 1B. West Valley’s 2nd semester calculus will be equivalent to De Anza’s MATH 1B and 1C. So if you take just MATH 1A at De Anza, you won’t have enough to fulfill the 1st semester calculus requirement at West Valley. If you take two quarters at De Anza, you’ll still be back tracking a bit because you’ll be 2/3 done at De Anza but you can only start at 1/2 done at West Valley. I go to De Anza, and I once considered doing this type of thing as well…but mixing systems isn’t always worth it. For non-sequence classes, go for it! I wouldn’t do calc, though.
