Will dropping a major requirement jeopardize my acceptance?

I’ve been accepted to UCSC, and they have a “Conditions of Admission” that lists a number of terms you must agree to fulfill, or your acceptance will be subject to be cancelled. (Here is a link http://admissions.ucsc.edu/apply/f16-conditions-transfer.pdf)

I have a problem because I am not doing well in a course, Calculus 1. My major is Business Management Economics, and under their “Major Preparation Selection Criteria,” my Calc 1 course satisfies one of their requirements for my major. I don’t want to continue with this course if I feel I will fail because my acceptance will automatically be cancelled (I’m pretty sure?). I thought my better option would be to drop (withdraw from) it. However, i’m worried that if I do so then I’ll be booted out too.

There’s a passage that says:
“While it is not required for selection, junior-level transfer students are strongly encouraged to have completed lower-division mathematics and statistics courses required for their intended economics major prior to enrolling at UCSC.”

That kind of led me to believe that it wasn’t necessary to complete Calc 1 before transfer. But then I feel like i’m breaking the condition of admission, so… i’m kind of confused. (I think i’m highly confused by wording so to have this reviewed by others would be highly appreciated!!)

I’ve done some research on this website, it seems summer courses can’t be used to fulfill this either? Unless approved so by the school. I was hoping for that too, but i’m not sure if it’s possible to begin with.

I’ve emailed admissions and plan to call them when they’re open, but I was hoping to get other feedback and possible experiences. Please help if you can, thank you!

Absolutely it will. You are “strongly encouraged” to take it meaning that while evaluating you for admissions they took that you will have completed calc 1 into account. You may still get in but remember you are only conditionally accepted right now meaning they could just as easily withdraw the offer of admissions. My advice: Get a tutor, buckle down, and pass the class.
