Will getting a C in an AP class get my admission rescinded?

I was accepted into a Big Ten school, and it looks like I may get a C- in AP Calc AB (I had a B- last semester). If all my other classes are As (and my other AP classes are Bs), will I get my admissions rescinded?

Edit: Also, will I lose financial aid? Sorry if this is a naive question.

You can check the website of the school you were admitted to and see if there is any more specific information but the general rule often quoted on CC is to avoid D’s, F’s, and felonies. You need to do absolutely everything in your power to be sure the final grade is in the C range – see the teacher for extra help, use online resources (ex. Khan academy), get a tutor etc. Do not let that grade drop any further.

I believe it varies from college to college but try not to get a D or F. It’s good that you’re doing well in your other courses though. Is there still time to improve your grades?

If there are no “clear bright lines” of grade and GPA conditions, but only a vague statement like “we expect you to maintain your academic performance in senior year”, then (assuming you do not change your schedule or otherwise violate any conditions):

  • If you earn a D or F, then you are at high risk of rescission.
  • Else, if your GPA is equal to or higher than your previous GPA, then you are extremely unlikely to be rescinded.
  • Else (your GPA is lower than your previous GPA), you have some risk of rescission (increasing the further you are below your previous GPA, and probably depending on the college's yield relative to expectations -- a college with too high a yield may be more aggressive are rescinding admissions).
