i have a pretty good gpa, a 3.8
i’ve volunteered, interned, created a club, became vise president (of my school), became president (of my school), was vise president of a red cross club, ran a blood drive (did quite a lot.)
but i got a pretty low sat score. i got a 990, i’m taking it again in october (in a week) & i’m hoping to do better & i’ve studied A LOT. but IF my sat score stays the same… will i be able to get in?
i should probably add that i don’t think my sat score will be a lot higher. i’m aiming for a 1000 at least but hopefully something higher like a 1010 or 1020 or 1050?
Is your GPA, your capped weighted UC GPA?
https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
There are many factors in involved in UC admissions but having a competitive GPA is very important. Test score, HS course rigor, EC’s, Intended major and your essays will all contribute to your chances. At the moment, your SAT will definitely impact your chances since you are well below the 25th percentile of 1130 for 2019 admits. Apply and see what happens plus you have until the December sitting to bump up your scores.
2019 UC capped weighted GPA averages:
UCR: 3.90
2019 Data:
25th - 75th percentiles for SAT totals: 1130-1400
with a 3.8, i think you’ll need to get close to 1300 SAT to be competitive for UCR.
I should add, all of the UC have some subjectivity in their admissions. Applicants with your stats and compelling stories get into UCR every year - so you should apply if you want to go.
Most programs at UCM and most of the CSUs (except CPSLO and CDSU) are accessible with your current score.
apply broadly.
good luck.
By the way, be sure to spell “vice president” correctly on your applications.
