I am applying to a number of Ivy League colleges in the US, although I go to school in England. I have taken the SAT(old) and got 2270, but I didn’t have time to do the subject tests as school was super busy and I have an Oxford interview coming up. I have 7A* and 3As at GCSE and AAA*A predicted for A Levels. That essentially equates to a 4.0 GPA I think although obviously it’s not quite the same thing. What I want to know is whether it will disadvantage me applying without subject tests?
It’s not being disadvantaged. Those submitting subject tests have another thing to brag about, unless the school requires (typically two).
Some of the Ivys require subject tests. You should check the website for each school you like and find their admission requirements.
Thanks for the answers - I’ve checked all of them and they say that they’re recommended but not required. Thanks for the info.
Recommended but not Required generally means not required for low income students.
You are weakening your app by not having subject test scores. The competition is fierce amongst internationals for places at op tier schools. However, I think you have missed the boat on that, so all you can do now is apply. Your stats are excellent, and there will be plenty of colleges in the US that would love to have you, so I suggest doing some research and finding another couple of slightly below top tier schools to apply to. Look at the LACs too, they are excellent and can offer a more personal experience than larger universities. Please don’t get your hopes up, it’s very difficult for everyone.
@Lindagaf thanks for the help - I’m applying for Columbia, Dartmouth and NYU. I’ve also applied to a number of colleges in the UK including Oxford and I had my interview there last week. I won’t be hugely disappointed if I don’t get into my US choices, but I just want to keep more options open for next year.
