ROTC Applicant

A weakness- I only have a couple AP courses on my transcript.

I am pretty sure I could make it into a less selective college at State, but how about engineering?

Thank You

Your stats sound good. You would prob. be very competitive for the College of Engineering.

Which branch of ROTC are you applying for? Is it one (AF or Navy) that pretty much requires engineering or hard sci. major?
MY S was in NROTC at NCSU. He commissioned in '09.

I am applying for NROTC Marine Option. From my understanding, the Marine Corps does not care about your degree like the Navy and Air Force.

You are right. For Marines, your major doesn’t matter. NCSU NROTC unit is a good one. Apply early. Good Luck to you.

Thanks.

Yeah, it has a relativly large Marine presence as well.

Not that I’m worried, just curious, but do you know any specifics regarding how often PT occurs and how much of a time commitment everything will be?

PT is twice a week at 6 a.m. if you are in good shape. If you can’t do the minimum reps/run time, you get put on remedial PT which means you have a extra PT per week.

Every semester, you have to take a ROTC class in addition to the classes required for your major. So if your major calls for 15 hrs/sem. you’ll have to add on your ROTC class and you’ll have 18 credit hrs. for the sem. I have heard that it sometimes takes Engineering majors an extra sem to graduate with the extra load.

I think I remember S having to do some lab type stuff …drilling, marching, guest speakers coming in to speak to the unit, etc. early on. That’s a no credit thing, just something you have to do. That might be just a freshman thing.

The unit sells t-shirts to raise funds at football games. Each person has to sign up for two games. They might have changed but did it the whole time S was there.

There was a mandatory study hall (8 hrs/week) for the first sem. of freshman yr. If you made a gpa of 3.0 or better, you didn’t have to do it anymore. Don’t know if Marines were included in that or just Navy.

I know it sounds like a lot but S did it all plus a part-time job (not freshman yr. but all the rest) and still managed to have plenty of fun. ROTC didn’t usually require anything on weekends except for taking a turn selling t-shirts at the football games and a few PT sort of competitions maybe a couple of times/sem.

The best thing you can do to prepare to to get in really good shape (running, sit-ups, push-ups) during your sr. year of h.s.
