Will I even have a shot at MIT?

Hi. I'm currently a sophomore in high school and I've been looking into MIT.. I know that if I even want a chance I need at least a 3.9, which I usually have. I'm in all honors classes this year and taking Chemistry, which at my school is a Junior Class. I am in first year Japanese. I qualify for AP Bio and AP Chemistry next year. I plan on taking AP Calculus next year. I'm also involved in Choir, String Orchestra (First Chair Viola), Drum Line, Drama Club, Quiz Bowl, and Poets Society. I haven't taken any type of test yet. Outside of school I like toying with computers and ballet. I've heard that only the super genius has a chance at getting into MIT. I really want to go there because I feel like I'd fit in well, MIT is right in line with everything I love and am passionate about. I still have 2 years and a half to, basically, prepare. I'm not sure what else I need to be doing or if I have a chance as it is? So, please help me out?

Just keep doing what you’re doing. Show your passion for math/science, especially with stuff outside of regular classes. Take your toying with computers to the next level. Participate in science-related competitions and other such extracurriculars. Stuff like that.

(Just my two cents)

Oh goodness! Thank you so much. I had a feeling that by just being myself I was already in a good place. Thank you.

You don’t have to be a super genius to go to MIT.

Always good idea to set goals for yourself, now and even in your professional career. Aim for MIT if that is what you want, it sounds like you are doing the right things. Follow you passions. But be realistic, there are only so many that can be admitted to ANY school. MIT does not accept some very good students. If you make it great. If you don’t, there are other very good colleges out there and you will be in a better place in applying for those having aimed for MIT.
