Will I get into McGill? Test optional makes it confusing

I am a US Senior from North Carolina with a particular fondness for international schools. Among the LSEs and Trinity Dublin’s, McGill has really caught my eye for a number of reasons. Plainly, I think it might be the perfect midway point between the freedom, subject-focus, and urbanism I love about the international schools and the community aspect of US colleges. I am planning to put in my application as soon as it opens on 10/1 but I’d like to hear what my chances look like.

I have a 3.909 UWGPA and a 4.487 WGPA from 5 AP classes so far, with 4 more this year. on those exams so far, I have four 5s (APES, APUSH, AP World, AP Lang) and a fail on APCSA. I’m applying for international development as my first choice and political science 2nd. My SAT from March is a 1280 (700 English 580 math) but I am planning to apply test optional. Obviously McGill doesn’t care about anything else but I’m and Eagle Scout, very involved in leadership and student council at my Catholic High School, and currently work for a US Senate campaign in my home state as part of the field team.

I would love to have a better idea of my chances at the Harvard of the North so I would be grateful for any insight on here! Thank you!

With a 3.909 UWGPA McGill is a virtual safety. You should apply early as last year some qualified students were not admitted due to a large increase in applications.

Your response has me wondering who should submit test scores. IOW, if a student is applying with a 4.0 UW and has the course pre-requisites, is there any point in submitting SAT/ACT? In my son’s case, I thought it would be helpful because I’m not sure anyone from his school has ever applied to McGill, and his SAT and ACT both meet/exceed all prior year minimums. . . .

If the SAT/ACT is well above the minimum I would recommend submitting it. If it is close to the minimum then I would not submit it.

I would think that you would have a very good chance to get in the Arts faculty with that GPA and course rigor(or rigour, as they say up there).
