Will I go to jail for this ?

Hi.

So I am an applicant from India, I studied there, but I do not have a guidance counselor. So what do I do ?

I first though about asking my school to fill it out , but no use.I love my school , but there is no one there capable enough to even do that.

So what should I have done ? Quit education simply because there I do not have a guidance counsellor?

I contacted the common app guys with this issue but no replies, so finally I took matters into my own hands.

I became my Guidance counsellor.

Well , I have been honest it doing it though, they ask for rank , I gave my school rank , they asked for school profile , I have no idea what that is, but all are keralites, so I skipped that and only added the number of students and graduation years.
They ask how me The Guidance Counselor recommends me The Student, I clicked the no basis option. And I uploaded my principals recommendation letter.
They ask for my transcript , I gave them the CBSE board results.

So my question for my fellow CC friends is whether what I did is wrong. Morally I do not think I did any mistake I just uploaded my documents, when I had no one else to do it for me. But legally is it wrong ? Plus is there any chance the admissions office will contact the fake guidance counselor ? I am planning to give my principals number, so that should not be a problem I guess.

Also , there is a section in the form for the guidance counselor to recommend the student, should I write there the truth ?

Finally, how do you guys fill out the common app ? Do you have a guidance counselor , or like me did you become the "honest" counselor ???

All the very best to my Indian friends trying to study at the US, I hope we all make it there !
Thank you for reading this and please comment. Will I go to jail for this ? :)

After seeing your previous posts , you claim to already moved to US , what is actually the truth?

@mathsoul
I hold a green card and have been in the US for 3 months.

I told u already the post about MIT in the “safety” thread was a mistake , it was my first post and had no idea which thread to post , I tried removing it , but it is still there.

I wrote a good answer for u being this rude , but later edited it out as I see u r trying to come here/ come here recently , so u must view me as ‘undeserving’ or a ‘cheat’ or something.

I am neither , and I wish you all the very best to come here and join ur dream college.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

@San2013 - you may not go to jail, but you could be in some serious trouble buddy. My advice is to fix it up by getting help from the CommonApp people or your school. Plus, you should have/could have put your principal’s name as guidance counselor if there was no one else! I’m sure there is someone at your old school in India that could have helped you in that decision, don’t try to take these matters in your hand, you’ll face major consequences. Don’t ruin your future; go seek advice immediately from someone that you know or may know in the USA, tell them your situation and be truthful, God will help you. Good luck!

I guess I should do something about it , I basically have no contact in my school … I was kind of “okay” with what I did , but seeing ur reply makes me kind of afraid. :frowning:
I have contacted the admissions office of the colleges I am applying to , plus the common app guys , I hope I get a reply from them and solve this issue. I have not applied to any college yet. Waiting for the reply…

Thanks for the heads up !

This is dis honest. Why would a school want a dis honest student?

You should have contacted each school individually to ask what you did or just have asked your principal who was writing your letter to be your guidance counselor.

Commonapp and US universities place a lot of emphasis on honesty and integrity - cheating on one homework assignments has kept some of my classmates (I am in high school in the US) out of their dream schools. Especially if you are applying to prestigious schools, they will definitely follow up with your guidance counselor. Do everything you can to contact these schools and inform them of what you did - otherwise it will be a blemish on your education because Commonapp records these things if you try to apply again.
