Will I still be admitted to UChicago if...

UChicago's supplement asked for three essays, two of which were to be one to two paragraphs. The other, an extended essay, was supposed to be one to two pages. I was also supposed to label the extended essay with the prompt I chose.

What are my chances of being admitted to Chicago is I wrote roughly two and a half pages for all three essays and forgot to label the extended essay? My test scores, resume, GPA, essays, and all other admission criteria are pretty solid. I just recall one of the admissions officers telling a group at a seminar that the most important part of the application is reading the directions. I know I sound like I am freaking out, but the University of Chicago is my number one school.

Thank you!

If they deny you, you can rest assured it wasn’t for that.

ehh, in a college application process where they’re looking for reasons to eliminate a candidate (especially in a pool as competitive as Chicago’s this year) not following the directions is an easy way to reject a candidate. I’m confused whether you made each of the three essays two and a half pages or combined it was two and a half. If it was the former, that’s blatant enough possibly for rejection. If it was the latter, it looks like you fell within the limits and it should be obvious from your essay which prompt you chose.

They were each roughly two and a half. However, I e-mailed the admissions officer for my state and attempted to rectify the situation as well as explain that UChicago is my number one, by far. He hasn’t responded yet.

I just received an e-mail from my UChicago admissions counselor. Here it is:

Thank you for contacting us regarding your application. Please do not worry about the word limit on your essays- we do not have a strict word limit policy since we would like your application to include all of the information necessary for the essays to be complete. I will also include your message as a part of your application so that other counselors may know about your interest in UChicago.

Yay! That makes me feel much better.

Hey not bad.
