Will iffy grades mess me up for college later?

I'm interested in some highly selective LACs (my top choice right now is Pomona.) My grades are pretty good overall, and my overall GPA for last year was 95%. But will some Bs in one or two classes hurt my chances? Freshman year, I got a B in Cult/Lit, mostly due to essay writing (which, weirdly enough, is something I do amazingly in now.) Sophomore year, I got a B in Alg. 2/Trig. Now this year, I'm really working hard, but it's looking like I might get a B in AP Chem or Pre-calc. Do you think getting Bs in a few classes throughout, if my overall average is still an A, will hurt my chances? I also have good test scores and ECs, if that helps.

I feel like I can bring up AP Chem if I work hard, and it's already gone up from a week or two ago, but I really don't know what to do for pre-calc. I understand all of the material pretty well, but we have homework quizzes every week where we basically have to copy down our answers from our homework to prove that we did it. I lost some homework the first week, and since then I feel like my teacher hasn't liked me and she's completely unwilling to help. I do all of my homework every night, but I'm still getting bad homework quiz grades. =/ Any advice for that?

Nope. I doubt it. Your grades are solid. Do your best this year and you can consider that box “checked.”

Admissions officers see thousands of applications. They aren’t going to care about the occasional B, especially in a difficult class. They will care about what makes you unique. I recommend you try your best, but don’t sweat the details.

Thanks. =) That makes me feel a lot better. Of course, I’m still working on my grades in those two classes, but I’m hoping the classes I didn’t do as well in last year and freshman year won’t hurt me too much. The classes I’ve gotten Bs in in the past have generally been considered some of the hardest classes at my school, so I think I’m still doing okay.
