I was admitted to pennstate, pitt-bradford, and sunyit so far. However, my dads osteosarcoma acted up which ended up with him being in the hospital for about a month+, I've been too busy working at my job as well as going back and forth to take care of my little brother. I've managed to slip up in my Calculus 1 class and ended my first semester with an F. Although I'm still keeping a C and above on the rest of my classes, I fear this F will affect me significantly... What are the chances of my admission being revoked?

An F has a real chance of getting your admission rescinded. Can you drop the class? Call the Us in any case to talk to them about it. Get ahead of the issue.

Do they send me an email all notifying me of the issue as well as ask me why I got an F? (if they do that)

And I don’t plan on dropping the Calc class. I want to stick with it.

Let’s get this straight: Your dad has/had cancer and was in the hospital for a month. You are a caregiver for your brother. You need to go to your own school counselor and have them write a letter for you and send it to the colleges ASAP. Absolutely, that is what they are there for. Be proactive and make sure this reaches the colleges as soon as or before the mid-year report. It always looks worse when you explain something after the fact.

Please ask your teacher-- or maybe another student–to help tutor you because second term will be rough if you didn’t learn the material well during first term.

Finally, take care of yourself. Share with a wise adult-- please don’t bottle it all up. This has got to be a stressful time in your household, and we all know these storms just do not clear up instantly.

So you would rather have 2 F’s than one F? Makes no sense to stay in a class where you have nothing to build on for the second part of the class… Something has to give, the job should have gone first. Go see your GC. You have to make plans now because of the F it is very possible you will be rescinded. Like mentioned above, he will have to write a letter for you with your mid term report.

You have a lot on your plate, and I sympathize with you. Let me echo the advice given previously. Don’t passively wait for someone to get your transcripts this summer and ask you what happened. Most colleges in their application and acceptance material ask you to notify them right away of any schedule changes or if you don’t pass a class. Be proactive and let them know. The advice to have a third party write a letter is also spot-on. I don’t know what your colleges will do, but I hope they will be understanding.

Try to get an Incomplete or Medical Pass or Pass/Fall vs. F
