Will my credits transfer

I'll be at Richard Bland College this fall and I plan on doing a year or two there. If I meet the criteria, I have automatic admission into the College of William and Mary. The only thing is that I don't want to stay in Virginia. I want to go to New York, I'm just scared that if I transfer out of state that my credits will not transfer and I'll be a freshman all over again.

How can I prevent this from happening? How can I make sure my credits will transfer and I'll still be on the right track to graduate in 2017?

Thank you.

Contact the transfer placement advisor at RBC, and find out where their graduates end up. I expect they are all over the country.

Which credits transfer and as what depends entirely on the receiving institution. If you know your target institutions, you can get some help with your planning from your advisor at RBC.

Most schools won’t officially evaluate until you’re already accepted… from my experience (going from Maryland CC to California CC to a UC) most of my classes transferred over as expected, basic english class cleared english requirement, maths articulated correctly, psych 101 became psych 3, chem 101 cleared basic chemistry, etc. My computer science courses didn’t transfer; it’s more likely you’ll need to retake courses that are in your major, especially if the school has a really good/prestigious program.

You should also look into which courses your target schools expect their CC/transfer students to have taken, I’m not sure if NY has a site for that or if you’ll have to go digging, but completing coursework should help you be not a freshman.
