Hello, everybody I am about to graduate from a community college. My current gpa is 2.7 and by the time I am finish it will either be 2.5 - 2.9 I am guessing. Now I want to go to a 4 year college and they most likely will accept, but its not my college for choice. I go to Kingsborough community college and will either attend Hunter college or Brooklyn college. They all part of the CUNY system.

I want to know will my 2.7 or what ever it will be by the end follow me to the new college. Such as I am in my new college and taking 4 classes and get all A's the first semester. Will it show up as a 4.0 gpa or will that 2.7 accumulate with the A's.

Depends on the college – each has its own way of dealing with it. Usually one can find it in the fine print in the college academic regulations (often published online).

Most of the time, the new GPA at the college is based on just what you earn at the new college. HOWEVER, 2 points to remember

1) Some colleges may just calculate what you earn at the new college for their own transcript BUT for graduation, includes ALL credits taken anywhere at anytime in terms of calculating any honors awarded at graduation.

2) If you apply for grad school or apply for jobs that request transcripts (not many fields, usually educational only) - that means the old CC transcript would have to also be sent.

In any case, you need to inquire at your transfer college for exact policies.

I dunno. List the new school GPA on your resume. If company’s ask for your old school transcripts, they’ll be able to see the improvement and most likely won’t care about how you did at your old school.

What I am trying to do is spend a year or two at Hunter or Brooklyn college then transfer to Yeshiva University, Syracuse, or Rutgers. Let’s say I am around 3.5 - 4.0 GPA within a year of going to Hunter college then would it be good to transfer to Rutgers or will Rutgers look at a poor GPA from the community college.

Right now I believe that the school I choose to go most likely won’t accept me. So I am not going to waste time and money to send in application and transcript. So I rather go to Hunter or Brooklyn college first as they would accept me, then transfer if possible.

Yes, I don’t thing YU or Syracuse would accept you with a <3.0 GPA. From what I know (i may be very wrong so don’t quote me) YU does not even take a lot of transfers. But Brooklyn college is a really good school and you get priority for being a NY resident.

Any idea if I can do one or two years at Brooklyn college or Hunter college with a 3.5 or higher then transfer out to the three school’s of my choice.
