I got a 640 on the math section of the SAT (800 CR / 780 writing), which I understand is a pretty subpar score. I was named a semifinalist with a PSAT score of 217. My essay for the app was good, I don’t have any disciplinary infractions on my record or anything, I have good grades, etc. Will my poor math score keep from advancing to the next stage of the competition?
@redandblack No, it will not affect your chances. Your overall SAT score is the only thing that counts. At 2220, it’s high enough to advance you to the NMF stage, given that everything else (essay, grades, etc.) is satisfactory. I think the minimum qualifying SAT score is 1960. At least that’s what it has been for at least the past three or four years. If I am wrong, others will correct me.
Nope. I had a 650 on math, 700 on CR and 680 on W and made it to NMF fine. As long as the total score is over 1960, you’re good.
