Will my TAG be rejected?

I just have several questions. I’m a second year transfer and I tagged to UCSB. they require a 3.2, and I have a 3.7; however something came up during the semester and I’m likely to get 1 A and 4 b’s, 1 possibly a C. I checked and this would drop my gap significantly to a 3.4-3.5. Can they reject my application for this sudden drop, and are my chances for the other UC’s diminished? Thanks

The UC’s cannot deny a TAG based on the rationale of a sudden drop in performance. As long as the GPA is above a 3.2, you are fine.

On the other hand that drop will have a significant bearing on regular admission from the UCs. Historically, sudden performance drops are associated with requests for additional information (good) and waitlists (Not as good but better than rejections).

@SDGoldenBear Okay cool. One more question. I’ve heard on this forum that UCSB is notoriously known for rejecting TAG applicants who haven’t completed their math requirement in Fall. Is this true? I started my IGETC math requirement (Pre-calc) in the spring of last year, and I’m going to finish my last math class this spring, will I be rejected??

I think it varies on your intended major.

Based on what I’ve seen on this forum they are ironclad with their UC-M requirements for certain majors. I know for a fact that this is the case with the ECON & PSTAT applicants.

@SDGoldenBear I’m an Econ major… I talked to my academic counselors, and they said this wasn’t true. They said UCSB only cares about when you START your requirements, which is the fall before transferring, not when you finish. Is this true??

For UCSB Econ TAG, your UC-M course must be completed by Fall 2016.

See: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/tag-matrix.pdf (Page 4 - right most column)

Calc I (Math 3A / Math 34A) counts as your UC-M so as long as you have that completed by this semester, then your fine.

Calc II (Math 3B / Math 34B) is considered a major prerequisite and not your UC-M requirement and can be completed by Spring. UCSB does like to see it completed earlier, but they can’t deny you if you meet all the TAG requirements.

@jrohazn…I also tagged Econ for UCSB and the way I looked at it was I had to have Calc 1 done this Fall to even get a chance to have Calc 2 done by the Spring. All courses must be completed by the Spring.

I also think if you complete College Algebra or Statistics in the Fall and did Calc 1 in the Winter that would be fine. College Algebra and Statistics counts as UC-M

@jrohazn yes, you need that math req by this fall, but doesn’t pre-calc cover that req?
