why would you “cut off support” after electing to support the school as an alum ?? because your double legacy student didn’t get in ?? that seems . . . . . . . . well i dunno - pretty sad.

Why is that “sad”?? They obviously have two daughters who could have done well at ND, as evidenced by their being admitted to UVA. As a parent, I completely understand their bitterness!!

i find bitterness to be sad, as well. the only evidence i see at hand is that the kids in question did not make the cut for ND.

While I may agree with you that bitterness is counterproductive, simply saying that these young ladies did not make “the cut” (BTW, if you read the email, which is from 2009, not this round, one daughter was accepted to ND but opted to attend UVA, while the second daughter was not accepted at all), “the cut” is not so cut and dried, so the speak, as you may think. Many with lower stats may be offered admission simply because of their geographic location, their minority status, or special connections. Just try being a white Catholic male with an Irish surname from a state that is heavily represented in the applicant pool and tell me what you think about making “the cut”… This is simply not a completely “fair” system based entirely upon ability and achievements…
